Buyer's guide Β· Marketing

We compared six creative automation platforms on published pricing, free plans or trials, bulk and feed-driven production, publishing and ad serving, team and brand controls, and the main limitation to check.

By Kurums EditorialPricing checked 12 October 2026Updated 13 October 2026How we make money
TL;DR
  • Small in-house team: Canva β€” Bulk Create from CSV or XLSX on Pro at US$144 a year, plus Business at US$250 per person a year with 100 Brand Kits.
  • Performance marketer serving display ads: The Brief β€” Formerly Creatopy; Team is $49 per seat a month billed annually with a 7-day trial and pooled ad serving.
  • Ecommerce catalog advertiser: Marpipe β€” Free tier for DPA, Startup at $199 a month and feed management at $0.05 per SKU on the White Glove plan.
  • European brand running display at scale: Bannerflow β€” Three custom-priced plans spanning Creative Studio, campaign management and dynamic creative optimisation.
  • Global enterprise with omnichannel campaigns: Celtra β€” Custom packages built on platform, scale and serving volume, with live-data creatives across 100+ media platforms.

Creative automation software produces many versions of an ad, banner, social post or video from a master design, so teams can cover every size, language, market, product and audience without rebuilding each asset by hand. Typical capabilities include templates locked to brand rules, bulk generation from spreadsheets or product feeds, automatic resizing, localization, generative AI for images and copy, and direct publishing or ad serving to ad networks. Some tools also run dynamic creative optimization, swapping elements in live ads based on data. Buyers range from small marketing teams producing social variants in a design tool, to ecommerce brands turning product catalogs into ads, to global advertisers coordinating thousands of display, social and video assets across agencies and markets.

We assessed each product on six fields: published pricing, free plan or trial, bulk and feed-driven production, publishing and ad serving, team and brand controls, and the main limitation. Products are listed in practical buyer order, from self-serve tools with published prices to quote-led enterprise platforms; the order is not a quality ranking. All prices and plan details were checked on official vendor pricing, product and help pages on 12 October 2026. Where a vendor does not publish a price we say quote-based. Creative automation contracts often include serving volume, so confirm what counts toward usage before you sign.

The 6 options in detail

1

Canva

Best for small in-house teams

Best for: Small and mid-size marketing teams that want templated, bulk-generated social and display assets inside a familiar design tool.

AttributeCanva
Published pricingFree US$0; Pro US$144 per year for one person; Business US$250 per year per person; Enterprise quote-based
Free plan or trialFree plan; free trials on Pro and Business, with no billing during the Business trial
Bulk and feed productionBulk Create from CSV, XLSX or Canva Sheets, up to 150 data fields; desktop only
Publishing and ad servingExports and social scheduling; no ad serving to ad networks
Team and brand controlsBusiness includes 100 Brand Kits and approvals; Enterprise 1,000 Brand Kits with tiered approvals
Main limitationNot built for feed-driven ad serving or dynamic creative optimization
  • Bulk Create links data columns to placeholders, so each spreadsheet row generates one design, and Canva Sheets selections support up to 300 rows.
  • Canva Business uses pay-as-you-grow billing, charging only for members who accept invitations.
  • Canva produces and exports assets but does not serve ads or optimize live creative, so performance teams need a separate ad stack.

Our take: Canva is the easiest entry into creative automation for teams that already design in it. A designer builds a template with separate text boxes and image frames, connects columns from a CSV, XLSX or Canva Sheets range, and Bulk Create produces one design per row, which covers price-point variants, location versions or event series. Brand Kits keep colors, fonts and logos consistent, and Business adds approvals and up to 100 Brand Kits for multi-brand teams. Note that Canva Teams is closed to new sign-ups, so new teams buy Business. In a trial, test a 50-row bulk run with images embedded in cells and check how exports name and organize files. Compared with The Brief, Canva lacks ad serving and network publishing; compared with Celtra or Bannerflow, it has no live-data or DCO layer. It remains a strong production tool for teams whose output goes to social channels and simple display.

The Brief

Best for display ads with serving

Best for: Performance and in-house ad teams that want AI ad generation, resizing and ad serving at published per-seat prices.

AttributeThe Brief
Published pricingPro $29/month and Ultra $79/month billed annually; Team $49 per seat per month billed annually for 2 to 10 people; Enterprise custom
Free plan or trial7-day free trial on Pro, Ultra and Team, no credit card required; no free plan
Bulk and feed productionAutomatic size variants, bulk editing and campaign localization; live-data feeds on Enterprise
Publishing and ad servingAd serving on 25+ networks and publishing to Meta and Google Ads on Ultra and Team; CM360 and DV360 on Enterprise
Team and brand controlsShared brand systems, co-editing and roles on Team; SSO, API and DAM integrations on Enterprise
Main limitationMonthly-billing prices are not listed, and feeds and API require Enterprise
  • The platform was formerly Creatopy, and its footer states that Creatopy is now The Brief, so existing Creatopy users can stay on the same product line.
  • Create Agent generates static, animated and video ads from a prompt and brand context, with editable outputs rather than flat images.
  • Team plans cap at 10 people, and real-time feeds, API access and enterprise ad servers require a custom Enterprise contract.

Our take: The Brief, formerly Creatopy, combines an ad design studio with AI generation and ad serving, which suits teams that build and run display campaigns themselves. You can import PSD and Figma files, animate them on a timeline, generate hundreds of size variants and localize whole campaigns in one step. Ultra and Team plans add ad serving on more than 25 networks, direct publishing to Meta and Google Ads, AI translation and automated A/B testing. Enterprise adds feeds with real-time data, an API, a white-label editor and publishing to CM360, DV360 and Veeva. Use the 7-day trial to rebuild one live campaign in every size you run and compare production time. Compared with Canva, The Brief is more ad-specific and can serve ads; compared with Bannerflow or Celtra, it publishes prices and is easier to adopt, though large enterprises may need their deeper DCO and governance.

Marpipe

Best for catalog and product feed ads

Best for: Ecommerce brands that want enriched dynamic product ads and feed management priced by plan and SKU.

AttributeMarpipe
Published pricingCatalog Creative: Free $0, Startup $199/month, Enterprise $999/month; Feed Management Free or White Glove $0.05/SKU with $400 minimum
Free plan or trialFree tier for previewing designs and launching un-enriched DPA; no trial listed
Bulk and feed productionEnriched catalog designs from product feeds; 500 SKU output on Startup, unlimited on Enterprise; daily sync
Publishing and ad servingLaunches catalog ads on all major platforms; up to 19 live treatments on Enterprise, matching Meta's limit
Team and brand controlsWhite-glove design strategist on Enterprise; dedicated feed expert on White Glove feed plan
Main limitationStartup limits you to 1 channel, 1 market and 3 live designs
  • Product-level video is included on Enterprise, turning catalog items into video ads without manual editing.
  • Marpipe advertises 50 percent off Enterprise for the first year for brands spending under $50,000 a month on ads.
  • It is focused on catalog and feed ads, so brand campaigns and non-product creative need another tool.

Our take: Marpipe narrows creative automation to one high-volume use case: dynamic product ads built from an ecommerce catalog. Instead of the plain product image that platforms show by default, it applies designed templates with prices, badges, backgrounds and brand elements to every SKU, then syncs the enriched feed to ad platforms daily. A separate feed management product helps clean fields, build product sets and score feed quality per channel, either self-serve or done by Marpipe's experts. The Free tier lets you preview generative designs and launch un-enriched DPA, which is a low-risk way to test the workflow. Before upgrading, check how many channels, markets and live designs you need, since Startup is capped at one channel and three designs. Compared with The Brief or Canva, Marpipe is narrower but deeper on catalogs; compared with Celtra's Dynamic Product Ads, it publishes prices and suits mid-size online stores.

4

Bannerflow

Best for display campaigns with DCO

Best for: Brands and in-house teams that design, publish and optimise display and social ads at volume with dynamic creative.

AttributeBannerflow
Published pricingQuote-based; all three plans listed as custom pricing
Free plan or trialNo free trial listed; demo and consultation
Bulk and feed productionCreative Studio for high-volume production, translation and localisation; Dynamic Content on Campaign Management
Publishing and ad servingPublishes directly to major ad networks with scheduling, rotation and live metrics; DCO on Creative Personalisation
Team and brand controlsCloud collaboration; exports as image, video or HTML5
Main limitationNo published prices or self-serve trial
  • Campaign Management lets you update live ads in real time without re-trafficking, which helps with price changes and promotions.
  • Creative Personalisation adds dynamic creative optimisation and integrations with product recommendation platforms.
  • Every plan is custom-priced, so smaller teams cannot compare it with self-serve tools without a sales conversation.

Our take: Bannerflow covers the full display production loop: design and animate ads in Creative Studio, publish them to ad networks, then update, schedule and rotate creatives while campaigns are live. The three plans build on each other, with Creative Personalisation adding dynamic creative optimisation, real-time asset optimisation and connections to product recommendation engines. That structure suits brands that run many always-on display and social campaigns across markets and want to change messaging without rebuilding and re-trafficking ads. In a demo, ask to see a localisation run across several languages and a live update pushed to running ads, and confirm how impressions or serving are billed. Compared with The Brief, Bannerflow offers more depth on campaign management and DCO but no published prices; compared with Celtra, it is often considered by mid-size and European advertisers, while Celtra targets large global enterprises and publishers.

5

Smartly

Best for social ad creative plus media

Best for: Large advertisers and agencies that want creative production and paid social and video media buying in one platform.

AttributeSmartly
Published pricingQuote-based; Smartly's former pricing page has been retired and prospects contact sales
Free plan or trialNo free trial listed; demo on request
Bulk and feed productionCreative suite for AI-assisted design, scaling and launch of ad assets
Publishing and ad servingMedia suite launches and manages campaigns across social, CTV (200+ streaming services), open web and video
Team and brand controlsBuilt for agency, performance, brand and creative teams; Intelligence suite for cross-channel reporting
Main limitationPricing and contract structure are not disclosed publicly
  • Creative, media and intelligence sit in one platform, which reduces handoffs between creative production and campaign management.
  • Named customers include Samsung, Spotify, Uber and KLM, reflecting a focus on large multi-market advertisers.
  • There is no public price information at all, and the platform is sized for large advertisers rather than small teams.

Our take: Smartly is an advertising platform with three suites: Creative for producing and scaling ad assets, Media for launching and managing campaigns across channels, and Intelligence for cross-channel performance views. Its strength is the link between creative and media, so a team can generate variants, push them to paid social, connected TV, open web or video campaigns, and see which creative drives results in one environment. That makes it most relevant to large brands and agencies with significant paid social and video budgets. Because the old pricing page is retired, ask early how fees are structured and whether they are tied to media spend, seats or modules. In a demo, test a multi-market launch with localised variants and see how quickly results flow back into creative decisions. Compared with Celtra, Smartly is stronger on media buying; compared with The Brief or Canva, it is much larger in scope and cost.

Celtra

Best for global omnichannel enterprises

Best for: Global brands, media teams and publishers producing very high volumes of governed creative across many channels.

AttributeCeltra
Published pricingQuote-based; custom pricing by platform, scale, serving volume and add-ons instead of rate cards
Free plan or trialNo free trial listed; quote or meeting
Bulk and feed productionCreative Automation for omnichannel campaigns; Dynamic Product Ads for catalog image and video
Publishing and ad servingLive-data creatives across 100+ media platforms; ad serving billed on impressions and/or video starts
Team and brand controlsAutomated brand governance for AI output; success management, onboarding and 24/5 support in every contract
Main limitationEnterprise scope and custom contracts make it a larger commitment than self-serve tools
  • Celtra cites 450+ enterprise customers and 20 million+ ads created annually, indicating a platform designed for very high volume.
  • Creatives can be scored before launch, and reporting shows which elements drive results to guide later production.
  • Pricing depends on several components, including serving volume, so total cost is hard to estimate before scoping.

Our take: Celtra is aimed at enterprises and media owners that produce creative at very high volume across display, social, video and digital out-of-home. Its Creative Automation product builds omnichannel campaigns from governed templates, Dynamic Product Ads turns catalogs into image and video ads, and Creative Enablement covers rich media and video. Live-data creatives update with pricing, inventory and market changes, and automated brand governance keeps generative AI output within brand rules. Pricing combines platform choice, team size and output, serving volume and add-ons such as predictive AI and creative services, and every contract includes onboarding and support. In a demo, bring a real multi-market brief and ask Celtra to show how templates, approvals and live data work together. Compared with Bannerflow, Celtra targets larger global programs; compared with Smartly, it focuses more on creative production and serving than on media buying.

How to choose creative automation software

Define your output volume and formats

Count how many unique assets you produce per month and in which formats: static social, animated HTML5 banners, video, catalog ads or digital out-of-home. Note how many sizes, languages and markets each campaign needs. A team producing a few hundred social variants has different needs from a brand trafficking thousands of display ads. This baseline tells you whether a design tool with bulk features is enough or whether you need a dedicated ad production and serving platform.

Check data inputs: spreadsheets or live feeds

Bulk generation from a spreadsheet works for planned variants such as locations or offers. Live product feeds and real-time data are needed when prices, stock or availability change daily. Ask whether the tool reads CSV and XLSX, connects to product catalogs, and how often it syncs. Marpipe syncs catalog feeds daily, while Celtra and The Brief Enterprise support live-data creatives. Feed quality matters as much as the template, so ask whether the vendor helps clean feed data.

Decide whether you need ad serving

Some tools only export finished files, which you then upload to each ad platform. Others serve ads directly or publish to networks, letting you update creative in running campaigns without re-trafficking. Ad serving adds measurement and flexibility but usually brings impression-based fees. If you buy media through CM360 or DV360, confirm native publishing. If your output goes mostly to organic social, an export-only tool may be the better value.

Test brand governance and approvals

Automation multiplies mistakes as easily as it multiplies good work. Check locked template elements, brand kits, approval steps and user roles. If you use generative AI, ask how the vendor keeps output on brand and who reviews it before launch. Multi-brand and agency setups need separate brand kits and permissions. Run a trial with a junior marketer creating variants to see whether the guardrails hold without a designer checking every file.

Connect creative to performance data

The value of producing more variants comes from learning which ones work. Look for element-level reporting, A/B testing and the ability to feed results back into the next round of production. Tools that combine creative and media, such as Smartly, close this loop inside one platform, while others rely on ad platform reports. Ask how quickly performance data appears and whether it can be broken down by headline, image or offer.

How creative automation software pricing works

Creative automation pricing ranges from low-cost seat plans to enterprise contracts. Canva lists Pro at US$144 a year for one person and Business at US$250 a year per person, with Bulk Create on Pro and higher plans. The Brief publishes Pro at $29 a month, Ultra at $79 a month and Team at $49 per seat a month, all billed annually, with Enterprise custom. Marpipe prices catalog creative by plan, from a free tier to $199 and $999 a month, and charges feed management per SKU. Bannerflow, Smartly and Celtra are quote-based and scope each contract to the customer's volume and modules.

Enterprise quotes typically combine several parts. Celtra lists platform choice, scale based on team size and creative output, serving based on impressions or video starts, and add-ons such as Dynamic Product Ads, predictive AI, custom API integrations and creative services. Ad serving fees are the item most likely to grow with success, because more impressions mean higher cost. Agency packages, white-label editors, extra brand kits and SSO are frequently limited to higher tiers. Ask vendors to separate fixed platform fees from usage-based fees so you can forecast cost under different media plans.

Trials help most when you rebuild a real campaign. The Brief offers a 7-day trial without a credit card, Canva offers free trials on Pro and Business, and Marpipe has a free tier. Enterprise vendors usually run a scoped pilot instead.

Creative Automation Software: frequently asked questions

What is creative automation software?

Creative automation software generates many versions of an ad or marketing asset from a master template, adapting size, language, product, offer or audience automatically. It combines templates, brand controls, data inputs such as spreadsheets or product feeds, and often generative AI. Many tools also publish or serve ads directly to ad networks. The goal is to produce more variants faster and more consistently than manual design.

What is the difference between creative automation and DCO?

Creative automation focuses on producing variants before launch, such as every size and language of a campaign. Dynamic creative optimization changes ad elements while the ad is live, choosing headlines, images or products based on data and performance. Some platforms do both: Bannerflow adds DCO on its Creative Personalisation plan, and Celtra supports live-data creatives that update with pricing and inventory.

Can Canva be used for creative automation?

Yes, for production. Canva's Bulk Create links spreadsheet columns to template placeholders and generates one design per row, and it is available on Pro, Business, Enterprise and other paid plans on desktop. Brand Kits and approvals help with consistency. Canva does not serve ads or optimize live creative, so performance teams usually pair it with an ad platform or a dedicated ad production tool.

What happened to Creatopy?

Creatopy has rebranded as The Brief. Its website describes the company as The Brief, formerly Creatopy, and the old Creatopy pricing URL redirects to The Brief's pricing page. As checked on 12 October 2026, The Brief offers Pro, Ultra and Team plans with a 7-day free trial and an Enterprise tier with feeds, API and enterprise ad server publishing.

How much does creative automation software cost?

Self-serve options start at Canva Pro at US$144 a year and The Brief Pro at $29 a month billed annually, with team plans at US$250 per person a year for Canva Business and $49 per seat a month for The Brief Team. Catalog-focused Marpipe runs from free to $999 a month. Bannerflow, Smartly and Celtra quote custom contracts that often include ad serving fees.

Do creative automation tools use generative AI?

Most now do. The Brief offers a Create Agent that generates static, animated and video ads from a prompt and brand context, Smartly offers AI-assisted design and scaling, and Celtra uses generative AI with automated brand governance. AI speeds up variation and copy, but you should still check output for brand, legal and accuracy issues, especially claims, prices and imagery of people.
