A tech stack is the combination of software, platforms and services a company uses to run its operations or build its product, for example its cloud provider, databases, programming languages and the business applications that connect to them.
Buy when the need is common and a mature product covers it well; build when the software is a genuine competitive advantage or no product fits. Compare the full multi-year cost, including maintenance, security and staff, not just the initial price.
SaaS usually wins on speed, maintenance and predictable costs, while on-premise can suit strict data-residency, customization or long-term cost requirements. Many companies run a mix and review the choice for each system.
