The cheapest accredited online MBA that carries a globally recognised name is the University of Illinois Gies iMBA at $27,288 all-in. Below it, Georgia Southwestern State ($9,756 tuition, AACSB) and the Open University (approx. Β£20,090β22,000, triple-accredited) are the true budget picks; Boston University Questrom ($25,000) and Quantic ($24,750, DEAC-accredited) sit just under the Illinois price. In the UK, Durham (Β£34,000) and Edinburgh (Β£36,000) are the cheapest triple-accredited names from the Russell Group; in Australia, AIB charges AUD 3,858 per subject (approx. AUD 46,300 for 12). Always check the accreditation body, not the word “accredited”.
Cheapest accredited online MBA searches usually return two kinds of results: unaccredited diploma mills priced at a few thousand dollars, and marketing pages for programs that cost $80,000 and call themselves “affordable”. Neither is useful. This guide lists eight online MBAs that hold recognised accreditation, publish their fees openly, and cost between roughly $10,000 and $46,000 for the whole degree as published in September 2026. We explain what AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA and the US regional and national accreditors actually mean, give you a total-cost table that includes the extras schools rarely mention, and say plainly where a cheap program is a bargain and where it is simply cheap. For the full list of accredited programs, see the online MBA programs directory and the MBA & Business Education hub; for the premium end of the market, our guide to the best online MBA programs in 2026 covers Warwick, Imperial, Kelley and their peers.
What is the cheapest AACSB-accredited online MBA?
Georgia Southwestern State University publishes $271 per credit hour and $9,756 total tuition for its AACSB-accredited online MBA, the lowest figure we could verify on a school’s own site.
Which cheap online MBA has the strongest brand?
The Illinois Gies iMBA ($27,288) and Boston University Questrom’s Online MBA ($25,000) are both from top-100 universities and cost less than a third of comparable US programs.
Is Quantic’s MBA properly accredited?
Yes, by the DEAC, a US Department of Education-recognised national accreditor, but not by AACSB, EQUIS or AMBA. That matters for some employers and for onward doctoral study.
What is the cheapest triple-accredited online MBA?
The Open University Business School’s MBA at approximately Β£20,090β22,000, with Durham (Β£34,000) and Edinburgh (Β£36,000) the cheapest from research-intensive UK universities.

How did we choose the cheapest accredited online MBA programs?
We applied four filters. First, accreditation we could verify on the accreditor’s or the school’s own site: AACSB, EQUIS or AMBA for the business school, or, for programs without those, a US Department of Education-recognised accreditor (regional accreditors such as WSCUC, or the national DEAC) or a national regulator such as Australia’s TEQSA. Second, a published total or per-credit fee on the school’s own domain, checked in September 2026; where a school gives a range, we quote the range. Third, a ceiling of roughly Β£36,000, $30,000 or AUD 50,000 for the whole degree, which excludes most ranked US programs. Fourth, evidence of a real cohort and faculty-led teaching rather than a self-paced course bundle. We deliberately included programs with weaker accreditation (Quantic, University of the People) because readers will encounter them, and it is more useful to explain the trade-off than to pretend they do not exist. Rankings were used only as a cross-check.
The 8 cheapest accredited online MBA programs in 2026
1. Online MBA β Georgia Southwestern State University
Fully online Β· approx. 18 months over 5 semesters, self-paced Β· $271 per credit hour, $9,756 total tuition (as published 2026) Β· AACSB
Georgia Southwestern’s online MBA is the cheapest AACSB-accredited MBA we could verify directly on a university’s own site, and the price is the same for out-of-state and international students. The program is a conventional general-management degree taught by full-time faculty, with the flexibility to take one or two courses a term. It suits professionals who need an accredited credential for a promotion rule, a public-sector pay band, or a visa points system, and who do not need a famous name on the diploma. The drawbacks are obvious: almost no international recognition, a small alumni network, and limited career services. If your goal is knowledge plus an AACSB stamp at the lowest possible price, it does the job.
2. MBA β The Open University Business School
Distance learning, modular, 180 credits Β· typically 3 years part-time (24β28 hours a week during modules) Β· approx. Β£20,090β22,000 total for UK students (2025/26; module prices updated annually) Β· AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA
The Open University is the largest distance-learning university in Europe and its business school is triple-accredited, which makes the OU MBA the cheapest triple-accredited MBA we know of. You pay module by module, so there is no large upfront commitment, and the fee covers study materials, residential schools and exams. Teaching is asynchronous with tutor-group support, and the degree is well regarded by UK public-sector and corporate employers. Drawbacks: the three-year default timeline is longer than most rivals, the OU brand does not carry the prestige of a Russell Group name, and international students should confirm the applicable fee, which the school does not publish as a single figure. For a self-funder in Europe or the Middle East who wants triple accreditation for the price of a used car, it is hard to beat.
3. MBA and Executive MBA β Quantic School of Business and Technology
Mobile-first online with optional in-person workshops Β· 15 months Β· $24,750 for the full program (cohorts from April 2026) Β· DEAC (US national accreditor, recognised by the Department of Education and CHEA)
Quantic built its MBA around short interactive lessons on a phone app, group projects and a selective admissions process, and it has grown a large international alumni base, notably among tech and start-up professionals. The 15-month format and the $24,750 price make it one of the fastest and cheapest routes to an MBA-titled degree from a US institution. The honest caveat is accreditation. DEAC is a legitimate national accreditor, but it is not AACSB, EQUIS or AMBA, and some employers, government scholarship bodies and doctoral programs will not treat a DEAC-accredited MBA as equivalent. It suits founders and product professionals who want structured business knowledge and a network, and who are not depending on the credential for a regulated role or a corporate tuition scheme with an AACSB requirement.
4. Online MBA β Boston University Questrom School of Business
100% online, weekly live sessions, six sequential modules Β· 2 years Β· $25,000 total tuition (as published 2026) Β· AACSB
Boston University’s Online MBA, delivered with edX, was designed explicitly to undercut the $100,000 US online MBA and it does so with a top-50 US university name attached. The curriculum is integrated rather than course-by-course: six modules, each built around a theme such as digital transformation or sustainability, with weekly live sessions and team-based work. The fee of $25,000 is fixed and covers the whole two-year program. Drawbacks: the rigid module sequence gives little flexibility to pause, the lack of electives means you cannot specialise, and career services for the online cohort are thinner than for the full-time program. It is the best choice on this list for someone who wants a recognisable US brand and AACSB accreditation at the lowest price, and who is content with a generalist curriculum.
5. iMBA β University of Illinois Gies College of Business
Fully online, weekly live sessions plus asynchronous content Β· 24β60 months, five intakes a year Β· $27,288 total tuition and fees (as published 2026) Β· AACSB
The Gies iMBA is the reference point for value in this market. Illinois is a top public research university, the business school is AACSB-accredited, and the degree costs $27,288 all-in with no residency. Teaching combines Coursera-hosted video with live weekly sessions led by Illinois faculty, and the five-intake calendar lets you start almost any time and set your own pace up to five years. The cohort is large and international, which is both the strength (network reach) and the weakness (limited individual attention). Compared with Boston University it is slightly more expensive but far more flexible; compared with Georgia Southwestern it costs nearly three times as much but brings a nationally known name. For most international readers of this guide, it is the pick.
6. Durham MBA (Online) β Durham University Business School
Online, with optional blended block teaching in Durham Β· 2 years part-time, September start Β· Β£17,000 per year, Β£34,000 total (same fee for home and international, as published for 2026 entry) Β· AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA
Durham’s online MBA is the cheapest route to a triple-accredited MBA from a Russell Group university. The program runs over two years in 12-week online modules, and students can attend optional block-taught sessions on campus to add a face-to-face element without paying extra tuition. Durham’s alumni are well represented in UK finance, energy and the public sector. Drawbacks: a single September intake, a two-year fixed rhythm with little scope to speed up, and a brand that, while strong in the UK and the Commonwealth, is less known in the US. At Β£34,000 it costs about Β£9,000 less than Warwick’s distance learning MBA for the same accreditation set, which for many self-funders will decide the question.
7. Online MBA β University of Edinburgh Business School
Online Β· 24 or 30 months Β· Β£36,000 fixed for the whole program (March 2027 entry) Β· AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA
Edinburgh’s Online MBA pairs a globally recognised university with a fee that is fixed at enrolment, which is rare and worth money in itself given how quickly UK fees rise. Students choose a 24-month or 30-month track and pay in two or three instalments. The school has strong links to UK financial services and fintech, and the cohort is smaller than Warwick’s or the OU’s. Drawbacks: a single March intake, a fee that is Β£2,000 above Durham’s for a similar accreditation profile, and no in-person option unless you travel for optional events. Edinburgh is the safe choice for professionals who want a name that needs no explanation anywhere in the world and are willing to pay a modest premium over Durham and the OU for it.
8. MBA β Australian Institute of Business (AIB)
Fully online, 12 subjects Β· designed for 24 months, accelerable to 12 Β· AUD 3,858 per subject for international students (approx. AUD 46,300 for 12; an upfront rate of AUD 3,215 per subject is published), prices correct as of June 2026 Β· TEQSA-registered Australian higher education provider; AACSB member, not AACSB-accredited
AIB is the largest MBA provider in Australia by enrolment and markets itself as a practical, fast-track degree for working managers. Subjects run in short terms, so you can start almost every two months. The program is registered and quality-assured by TEQSA, the Australian regulator, and is recognised in Canada through the Canadian Institute of Management. The honest caveat is the same as Quantic’s: AIB is an AACSB member but not AACSB-, EQUIS- or AMBA-accredited, so it lacks the business-school accreditation that many corporate sponsors look for. Fees also vary by country of residence, so check the price list that applies to you. It suits professionals in Asia-Pacific, the Gulf and Africa who want a recognised Australian degree quickly and are not constrained by an accreditation requirement.
How do you check whether an online MBA is properly accredited?
“Accredited” is a word anyone can print. What matters is who did the accrediting. There are three layers. The first is institutional accreditation or registration: in the US, a regional accreditor (WSCUC, SACSCOC, HLC and others) or a national one such as DEAC; in the UK, degree-awarding powers granted by the Office for Students; in Australia, TEQSA registration. Without this layer the degree is not a degree. The second layer is business-school accreditation: AACSB (US-based, the most widely recognised), EQUIS (run by EFMD in Brussels) and AMBA (London). A school with all three is “triple-accredited”, which is a strong quality signal but held by fewer than 150 schools worldwide; many excellent US schools hold AACSB only. The third layer is program-specific recognition, such as AMBA accrediting a particular MBA rather than the whole school. To check, go to the accreditor’s own directory: AACSB, EFMD and AMBA all publish searchable lists. Do not rely on a logo on the school’s site.
What does a cheap online MBA really cost in total?
Headline tuition understates the bill by 5β20 per cent at most schools. The table below adds the extras that are commonly charged or unavoidable: application and graduation fees, textbooks and software, mandatory or strongly encouraged residencies, and, for programs billed per module, the risk of annual price rises during your studies. Figures are rounded estimates for an international, self-funded student; the tuition column is the school’s published figure.
| Program | Published tuition | Typical extras | Estimated total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Georgia Southwestern | $9,756 | University fees, books: approx. $1,500β2,500 | approx. $11,500β12,500 |
| Open University | approx. Β£20,090β22,000 | Materials included; annual module price rises over 3 years | approx. Β£21,000β23,500 |
| Quantic | $24,750 | Optional workshops travel | approx. $25,000β28,000 |
| Boston University Questrom | $25,000 | Books, software: approx. $500β1,000 | approx. $25,500β26,000 |
| Illinois Gies iMBA | $27,288 (fees included) | Books, optional campus visits | approx. $28,000β30,000 |
| Durham Online MBA | Β£34,000 | Optional Durham blocks: travel and stay | approx. Β£34,500β38,000 |
| Edinburgh Online MBA | Β£36,000 (fixed) | Books, optional events | approx. Β£36,500β38,000 |
| AIB MBA | approx. AUD 38,600β46,300 | Non-tuition fees per price list | approx. AUD 40,000β48,000 |
Two points stand out. Illinois, Boston University and Edinburgh publish all-in or fixed fees, which removes the price-rise risk that modular programs such as the OU and AIB carry. And the difference between the cheapest AACSB program and the cheapest well-known AACSB program is about $15,000, which is the price of the brand; whether it is worth paying depends on how much your employer or market cares about the name.
When is the cheapest online MBA the wrong choice?
A low-cost online MBA is a poor fit in three situations. If you are trying to switch into consulting, investment banking or a multinational leadership programme, the cheapest degrees will not put you in front of those recruiters; our guide to online MBA vs executive MBA vs full-time MBA explains why, and the full-time MBA directory lists the alternatives. If your employer’s tuition scheme or your country’s scholarship board requires AACSB, EQUIS or AMBA accreditation, Quantic, AIB and University of the People are out regardless of price. And if what you actually need is a specific skill, a shorter accredited master’s from the online master’s degrees directory, a certificate from the executive education directory or a course from our courses section may deliver more for less time and money. Cheap is only a bargain if the degree does the job you bought it for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a $10,000 online MBA taken seriously by employers?
If it is AACSB-accredited, as Georgia Southwestern’s is, most employers will accept it as a valid MBA, particularly for internal promotion and public-sector pay scales. It will not compete with a top-50 name for external recruiting. The accreditation, not the price, is what HR departments check.
Why is the Illinois iMBA so much cheaper than other US online MBAs?
Illinois deliberately priced the iMBA at scale: a large cohort, Coursera’s platform for content delivery and no residency keep unit costs low. Other schools charge more because they run smaller cohorts and price to match their campus programs.
Can I pay a cheap online MBA in instalments?
Almost always. The OU and AIB bill per module or subject; Illinois bills per course; Edinburgh takes two or three instalments; Boston University bills per module. Instalment billing reduces risk if you need to pause, but check whether prices are fixed for the duration.
Are there cheaper triple-accredited MBAs outside the UK?
A few schools in South Africa, India and continental Europe offer triple- or double-accredited online MBAs at lower prices in local currency, but most require in-country residencies and are hard to verify from abroad. The OU, Durham and Edinburgh remain the safest triple-accredited options under Β£36,000 for international students.
Do cheap online MBAs require a GMAT?
Generally no. Georgia Southwestern, Illinois, Boston University, the OU, Durham, Edinburgh and AIB all admit without a GMAT for candidates with sufficient work experience or a good first degree, though some may ask for a test if your academic record is weak. Quantic runs its own admissions assessment.
Is University of the People’s MBA really free?
There is no tuition, but each of the 12 courses carries an assessment fee, currently $490, so the degree costs about $5,940. The university holds WSCUC regional accreditation, which is legitimate, but the business program has no AACSB, EQUIS or AMBA accreditation and the brand is not widely recognised by employers.
