Job Offer Comparison Calculator

Job Offer Comparison Calculator

Two job offers rarely line up neatly: one pays more in base, the other has a larger bonus or equity. This job offer comparison calculator adds base, bonus and an equity value you assign for each offer, for candidates weighing two jobs and for HR teams or hiring managers checking a counteroffer.

What this HR tool gives you

The result shows both totals, the gap between them and which offer totals more, with a line-by-line table of base, bonus and equity. Use it to structure a negotiation conversation around the parts that differ. Figures are kept on your device, with no registration.

What you enter

  • Offer A base salary, bonus and equity value
  • Offer B base salary, bonus and equity value
  • Currency: USD, EUR or GBP (all six amounts in the same currency)

Worked example

In the example, Offer A has a $90,000 base, $10,000 bonus and $20,000 equity value, for a total of $120,000. Offer B has a $100,000 base, $5,000 bonus and $8,000 equity value, totaling $113,000. Offer A totals more, and the gap is $7,000.

How are two job offers compared?

Each offer's total = base + bonus + equity value. The gap is the difference between the two totals, shown as a positive amount, and the tool states whether Offer A or Offer B totals more, or that they match.

All six fields are required, and none can be negative; type 0 for a piece that does not apply. Equity is the value you assign, not a valuation; the tool does not model vesting, strike prices, taxes or benefits. The page notes this is not compensation advice.

Tips before you use the result

  1. Compare base salary on its own as well; bonus and equity are less certain than the monthly paycheck.
  2. Use the same time basis for every piece, typically one year: annual base, target annual bonus and one year's vesting of equity.
  3. Be conservative with equity in private companies, and consider running the comparison once with equity at 0.
  4. Benefits, retirement matching and commuting costs are not in the totals; list them separately before deciding.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare two job offers?

Put each offer on the same annual basis, add base salary, expected bonus and a realistic value for equity, then compare totals and look at which component drives the gap. This calculator does the addition and shows both totals, the gap and a side-by-side table.

How should I value equity in a job offer?

The tool uses whatever value you type and does not calculate it. Many people use one year of vesting at a conservative price, or a discounted value for private-company equity. Try a few values to see whether the equity changes which offer comes out ahead.

Does the comparison include taxes or benefits?

No. Totals are pre-tax and include only base, bonus and your equity value. Health coverage, retirement contributions, paid leave and other benefits are not part of the calculation, and the page states the comparison is not compensation advice. Add those separately in your own notes.

What if one offer has no bonus or equity?

Type 0 in that field. All six fields must contain a number before the comparison appears, which prevents a missing value from being mistaken for zero by accident. Negative amounts are not accepted. Use the same currency for both offers so the totals and the gap are comparable.
