Sprout Social suits mid-size and enterprise teams where marketing, community and customer care share one platform and where governance, reporting and an organized inbox matter more than the lowest price. Solo creators and small teams that mainly need a posting queue should look at cheaper tools. As of October 29, 2026, Sprout’s pricing page lists Essentials at $79 per seat per month billed annually ($99 billed monthly), Standard at $199, Professional at $299 and Advanced at $399, with custom Enterprise pricing. Listening, Premium Analytics and Employee Advocacy are quote-only add-ons. There is a 30-day free trial and no permanent free plan.
This Sprout Social review is written for marketing managers, founders and finance leads who have to approve a per-seat software contract. Sprout sells a social media management platform that combines publishing, a shared inbox called the Smart Inbox, reporting, listening and, since mid-2026, an AI agent named Trellis. It is one of the more expensive tools in the category, so the useful question is which plan, how many seats and which add-ons your team will really pay for.
How this review was made. It is based on Sprout’s public pricing, plan-guide and help pages, product release notes, press announcements and published independent user-review ratings, all opened on October 29, 2026. Kurums did not run a hands-on lab test of the product, and this page does not describe screens we have not seen. No vendor paid for or reviewed this page, and it contains no affiliate links.
What does it cost?
Per-seat list prices run from $79 (Essentials) to $399 (Advanced) per month on annual billing. A five-person Professional team lists at $17,940 a year before add-ons, taxes or discounts.
What is the catch?
Costs scale with seats, and listening, premium analytics and employee advocacy are sold separately by quote. On Capterra, reviewers rate value for money lowest of four sub-scores.
Who should buy it?
Mid-size and enterprise teams that need approvals, a shared inbox with customer-care reporting and executive-ready analytics. Budget-led teams should compare Buffer, Metricool and Hootsuite first.
What is Sprout Social and who is it for?
Sprout Social is a publicly traded software vendor whose main product is a per-seat platform for publishing to social networks, managing incoming messages, reporting on performance and, as paid add-ons, listening and employee advocacy. It targets teams that treat social media as both a marketing and a service channel.
On May 13, 2026, Sprout announced what it calls an AI-powered social intelligence platform and an expanded version of Trellis, its in-house AI agent. The announcement named four strategic pillars: Predictive Media Intelligence, Full-Funnel Social Optimization, Scalable Social Support and Authentic Brand Amplification. For a buyer, the practical reading is that Sprout wants to be the system where social data is collected, analyzed and routed to other departments, not only a scheduler.
The typical buyer
- An in-house social team that needs approval steps, role permissions and a content calendar shared with regional managers.
- A customer-care group that answers questions on Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok or WhatsApp and needs tasking, tagging and case reporting.
- A communications or insights team that has to show leadership what social data says about the brand, which is the use case Sprout emphasizes for Trellis and Listening.
It is a weaker fit for a freelancer or a small business with two or three accounts, where a queue-based scheduler costs a fraction as much. Kurums covers that end of the market in its free social media scheduler comparison and in the social media management software comparison. What does Sprout Social cost in October 2026?
Sprout charges per seat per month. On the Sprout pricing page as of October 29, 2026, annual-billing list prices were $79 for Essentials, $199 for Standard, $299 for Professional and $399 for Advanced. Enterprise is custom and requires a demo. Only Essentials showed a separate monthly-billing price, $99.
| Plan | Price per seat per month (annual billing) | Social profiles | What the plan adds, per Sprout |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $79 ($99 billed monthly) | 5 | Optimal send times, profile and post-level reporting, collaborative content calendar, Trellis, mobile app. No brand keyword groups. |
| Standard | $199 | 5 | Smart Inbox and collaboration tools, keyword and location monitoring, review management, 10 brand keywords per group. |
| Professional | $299 | Unlimited | Message tagging, competitor, tag and paid insights, approval workflows, Enhance Post by AI Assist. |
| Advanced | $399 | Unlimited | Sentiment in Smart Inbox and Reviews, Sprout API, helpdesk integrations, customer care reports, Message Spike Alerts, Enhance Reply by AI Assist, 20 brand keywords per group. |
| Enterprise | Custom (demo required) | Not listed | Everything in Advanced plus white-glove onboarding, dedicated SSO setup, tailored plan, priority support. |

What the per-seat math looks like
The table below is Kurums arithmetic on those list prices: seats multiplied by the monthly rate multiplied by 12. It assumes annual billing and excludes add-ons, taxes, negotiated discounts and any Trellis Plus purchase.
| Team scenario | Plan | Annual list cost |
|---|---|---|
| 2 seats | Essentials ($79) | $1,896 |
| 3 seats | Standard ($199) | $7,164 |
| 3 seats | Professional ($299) | $10,764 |
| 5 seats | Professional ($299) | $17,940 |
| 10 seats | Professional ($299) | $35,880 |
| 10 seats | Advanced ($399) | $47,880 |
Add-ons and AI credits
- Premium Analytics and Listening: sold separately, available on Standard and up, priced after a demo.
- Employee Advocacy and Professional Services: also available on Standard and up with pricing on request.
- Trellis Plus: $28 per seat per month on annual billing or $35 billed monthly, adding 1,000 Trellis credits per seat per month. Every plan includes 100 credits per seat.
- Influencer Marketing and NewsWhip: sold without requiring a Sprout plan, with pricing on request.
Sprout’s plan guide says seats can be added at the same per-seat rate, plans can be changed at any time, and buying extra profiles as add-ons can cost more than moving up to Professional. Kurums’ own management-software comparison, last priced in June 2026, listed Standard at about $199 per user and did not show Essentials. Sprout’s page is newer, so use the figures above.
What can Sprout Social do for publishing, inbox, analytics, listening and approvals?
Sprout covers the full daily loop of a social team: composing and scheduling posts, working a shared inbox, reporting on results and, with add-ons, listening to conversations beyond your own profiles. Depth varies by plan, so each capability below is tied to the tier where Sprout lists it.
Publishing and approvals
Publishing tools include a collaborative content calendar and optimal send times, both listed on Essentials in Sprout’s materials. Approval workflows appear on Professional in Sprout’s plan guide. Release notes show steady additions in 2026: link tracking rules applied to first-comment links on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn (April 8), Blocked Words inside approvals (April 21), Reddit publishing (April 27), video Pins on Pinterest (June 9), up to five Instagram collaborators in Compose (August 3), trending audio for Reels (August 5) and TikTok photo posts (August 20).
Smart Inbox and customer care
The Smart Inbox pulls messages and mentions from connected networks into one stream. Sprout’s pricing page lists the consolidated inbox at Standard, message tagging at Professional and sentiment in the inbox at Advanced. In 2026 the inbox gained Threads @mentions (April 7) and TikTok mentions (June 10). Advanced-plan care managers can send third-party web surveys when a case closes, and authorized users can reveal personal data masked by Sprout’s Guardian feature. Care reporting added metrics for total agent replies, reply time from assignment and cases handled on April 16.
Reporting and Premium Analytics
Core reporting covers profile, post and group levels. Professional adds competitor, tag and paid insights. The Premium Analytics add-on provides enhanced reports, selectable metrics, interactive charts, configurable engagements, shareable report links and an Analytics API. On January 29, 2026, Sprout added Custom Metrics in post-level reporting for Premium Analytics customers, capped at 100 per account. For guidance on what to measure with any of this, see Kurums’ guide to which social media metrics matter.
Listening
Listening is a paid add-on on Standard and up. Sprout’s integrations page lists listening coverage for Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, Bluesky, Reddit, Tumblr and the open web, and says it is not offered for Threads, WhatsApp, Pinterest, LinkedIn or Snapchat. Release notes show topic edits reprocessing in seconds (April 8) and expanded web coverage (August 20), while theme updates stay on a 12-hour batch schedule. Sprout also deprecated the Listening Demographics tab on August 3, so confirm which views your contract includes.
Employee Advocacy
Employee Advocacy is a separate add-on that helps staff share company content through their own networks. Sprout does not publish its price, so treat it as a sales-quote item and ask how it is licensed (per employee, per pack or flat).
How useful are Sprout’s AI features, AI Assist and Trellis?
Sprout has two AI layers. AI Assist helps with writing and editing inside Compose and the inbox. Trellis is a conversational agent that answers questions over your social data. According to Sprout, AI Assist does not draw down Trellis credits, while Trellis Chat and Skills do.
AI Assist features are tiered: unlimited AI-generated alt text is listed at Standard, Enhance Post by AI Assist at Professional and Enhance Reply by AI Assist at Advanced. Trellis was announced in its expanded form on May 13, 2026, and an August 19, 2026 release says it became available to every customer on every plan in July 2026. Sprout also launched Trellis Studio, where teams build reusable AI skill templates for recurring tasks such as summarizing weekly feedback or tracking trends. Per Sprout’s credits help article, each user gets 100 credits a month, and usage depends on prompt complexity and the number of data tools the agent calls, not prompt length.
Sprout’s release cites JetBlue and Ipsy as saying Trellis cut reporting and launch-monitoring time from hours to minutes. Those are vendor-supplied statements without measured figures, and an analyst note from Futurum Group drew almost entirely on Sprout’s own release. Treat them as claims to test in your trial. The credit allowance is the practical limit: 100 credits per seat may suit occasional report summaries but not daily heavy use, and the next step up is Trellis Plus at $28 to $35 per seat per month.
How well does Sprout Social support Meta, X, Pinterest, YouTube and TikTok?
Sprout lists support for Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, X, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Snapchat and Reddit. Coverage differs by network, and WhatsApp is inbox-only. The table summarizes what Sprout’s networks and integrations page states, with 2026 release-note additions.
| Network | What Sprout says it supports | 2026 changes in release notes |
|---|---|---|
| Publishing, analytics, post boosting, reputation and response management for Pages and Messenger | Facebook reach metrics updated June 15 | |
| Scheduling and boosting, comment management, hashtag monitoring, reporting | Reels view-time metrics (April 6), collaborators, trending audio, Instagram Login connections (August 31) | |
| Threads | Planning, scheduling, engagement, reporting | Optimal send times (April 8), @mentions in Smart Inbox (April 7) |
| Managing and replying to messages in the Smart Inbox | None found | |
| X | Management and customer care | Pro Media support retired end of January 2026; shared-metrics redefinition April 22 |
| Creating, publishing and reporting on Pins | Video Pins (June 9) | |
| YouTube | Video publishing and audience engagement | None found |
| TikTok | Video scheduling, comment management, analytics | Mentions in inbox (June 10), TikTok Ads reporting (June 11), photo posts (August 20) |
X and API costs
Sprout’s help center says X changed its API in January 2026 and Sprout retired Pro Media accounts at the end of that month. Accounts on X Basic, Premium or Premium+ can upload longer, larger videos, and Premium profiles can compose up to 25,000 characters. None of the Sprout pages we opened described a separate X API fee passed through to customers, but they do not rule one out, so ask in writing. For background on X’s own pricing, see Kurums’ X API pricing guide.
Meta link limits and Meta One
Meta has been testing a cap on link posts from Facebook Pages. TechCrunch reported the test on December 17, 2025, and EconoTimes reported on October 23, 2026 that Pages in the test can include links in up to two organic posts or comments per calendar month unless they subscribe to Meta One, whose Advanced, Expert and Max tiers started at $49.99, $149 and $499 per month in Meta’s September 15 announcement. EconoTimes, citing Sprout, said the limit applies to Facebook Pages, not personal profiles or Groups. Sprout has published a help article on Meta One, Facebook link limits and publishing via Sprout, which we could not load, so read it before relying on any workaround. Neither Sprout nor any other scheduler can bypass a platform-level limit. Kurums explains the wider picture in what Meta One means for marketers and what the Meta link cap means.

What do independent user ratings add to this Sprout Social review?
Independent ratings are favorable but not uniform. G2 showed 4.4 out of 5 for Sprout Social when we opened it on October 29, 2026, and a Capterra listing showed 4.4 out of 5 from 609 reviews. Capterra’s sub-scores put value for money last.
| Source (opened Oct 29, 2026) | Overall | Review count shown | Sub-scores and notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| G2 | 4.4 / 5 | 6,875 in the rating data; the page text also says “3,500+” | Sub-scores not captured. The two counts conflict, so treat the count as approximate. |
| Capterra (regional listing) | 4.4 / 5 | 609 | Ease of use 4.4, customer support 4.3, features 4.2, value for money 3.9. 80% would recommend. |
| TrustRadius | Not opened | Not opened | No figure stated. |
Themes in the five sample Capterra reviews we could read matched the pricing picture: reviewers liked the intuitive interface, the single place to manage many accounts, reporting that looks good for paid campaigns and the unified inbox. Complaints were that costs rise quickly with more user licenses and social handles, that the feature set can feel overwhelming, and that social listening is basic. Five reviews are a thin sample, so use them as questions for your trial, not as findings.
What are Sprout Social’s main strengths and weaknesses?
Sprout’s strengths cluster around team workflow and reporting, and its weaknesses around price and add-on dependence. The table separates what the evidence supports from what you must verify.
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|
| Published list prices for four tiers, with a 30-day trial that needs no card | High per-seat cost; value for money is the lowest Capterra sub-score (3.9 of 5) |
| Shared Smart Inbox with tasking, tagging, sentiment (Advanced) and care reporting | Listening, Premium Analytics and Employee Advocacy are quote-only add-ons |
| Approval workflows and Blocked Words in approvals | Approvals start at Professional, so Standard teams on a tight budget lack them |
| Frequent 2026 releases across Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Pinterest and Reddit | Standard and Essentials cap you at five social profiles |
| Trellis included on every plan, with a clear Trellis Plus price | 100 credits per seat per month may run out for heavy users |
| Sprout API at Advanced for data and drafts | Listening coverage varies by network, and some views have been deprecated |
Who should choose Sprout Social and who should look elsewhere?
Choose Sprout if your team needs governance, a care-grade inbox and reporting that executives will read, and you can fund Professional or Advanced seats. Look elsewhere if you need a cheap queue, per-channel pricing, or an enterprise suite that spans advertising, research and care at much larger scale.
Choose Sprout Social if
- Three or more people publish, approve and reply, and you need roles and approval steps.
- Customer care on social is a measured function with response-time and case reports.
- You want AI summaries of social data without adding a separate analytics product.
- Procurement prefers published per-seat prices over opaque quotes for the core platform.
Look at alternatives if
| Alternative | Consider it when | Kurums review |
|---|---|---|
| Hootsuite | You want an all-in-one platform for larger teams with broad integrations | Hootsuite review |
| Buffer | You are a small team or creator that values a simple queue and low per-channel pricing | Buffer review |
| Sprinklr | You need an enterprise-scale suite and have the budget and implementation capacity for it | Sprinklr review |
| Metricool | You want analytics value on a modest budget | Metricool review |
Kurums’ side-by-side tables are in the social media management software comparison and the scheduling software comparison. If you are still deciding what to post and where, first read how to build a social media marketing strategy and how to choose social media platforms, because the tool should follow the plan.
How should you run a 30-day Sprout Social trial or pilot?
Run the 30-day trial as a structured test against your real workflow, with success measures set before day one. Sprout says nearly all plans include a 30-day trial without a credit card, so cost is time, not money. The checklist below keeps the evaluation honest.
Weeks one and two: connect and publish
- Connect every profile you actually run and note any that fail or lack features, especially WhatsApp, YouTube and X.
- Publish at least ten real posts per network, including video, carousels and first-comment links.
- Build your real approval chain and have an outside approver try it, then check what that person is charged as a seat.
- Route inbox messages to two teammates and time first-reply speed against your current process.
Weeks three and four: report, test AI and negotiate
- Build the monthly report your leadership reads today and check whether any needed metric requires Premium Analytics.
- Ask Trellis ten real questions and track how many of the 100 credits per seat they use.
- Request written quotes for listening, Premium Analytics and Employee Advocacy, even if you plan to skip them.
- Export a report and a content calendar to confirm you can leave with your data.
