The best-value online master’s in analytics in 2026 is still Georgia Tech’s OMS Analytics at roughly $12,350β$12,960 for 36 credits, provided you can pass its Python, statistics and calculus prerequisites. If you cannot code and want a business-school degree, Maryland Smith’s Online MS in Business Analytics and AI (approx. $25,000, 30 credits, from 16 months) and Bath’s online MSc Business Analytics (approx. Β£14,994, from 27 months) are the friendliest entry points. UT Austin’s $10,000 MS in Data Science and CU Boulder’s $15,750 performance-admission MS-DS are the cheapest routes to a technical degree. Imperial’s online MSc Business Analytics is on the list because of its reputation, but as of September 2026 it shows no open start dates, so treat it as “check first, plan second”.
Best online master’s business analytics searches now return more than forty accredited degrees, and the spread in price is wider than in any other business-education category: a 30-credit master’s from a top-15 US university can cost $10,000 or $82,000 depending on which door you walk through. That is why this guide sorts programs by three things that actually change your outcome β the maths and programming you must already have, the total fee as published for 2026 entry, and whether the degree comes from a business school (management framing, AACSB or EQUIS accreditation) or a computing or statistics department (deeper methods, more code). We compared 25 programs, verified the headline fees on each school’s own pages in September 2026, and shortlisted eight that a working professional in Europe, MENA, Asia or North America can complete part-time without relocating. The comparison sits inside our wider MBA and Business Education hub; if you are torn between an analytics master’s and an MBA, read our companion piece on online master’s versus MBA after this one.
Which online analytics master’s offers the best value in 2026?
Georgia Tech OMS Analytics: 36 credits for about $12,350 (US) or $12,960 (international), a top-10 engineering brand and no GRE. The catch is that you need Python, statistics and calculus before you apply.
What if I have no programming background?
Maryland Smith and Bath both admit candidates without coding experience and offer bridge modules; expect to pay roughly twice Georgia Tech’s fee for that convenience.
Business analytics or data science β which title should I choose?
Business analytics degrees (Maryland, Bath, BU, Imperial) sit in business schools and lead to analytics-manager, consulting and finance roles; data science degrees (Georgia Tech, UT Austin, Illinois, CU Boulder) go deeper into machine learning and lead to data scientist and engineering roles.
How long does an online analytics master’s take?
Plan for 16β36 months part-time. Self-paced programs (Georgia Tech, UT Austin, CU Boulder) let you slow down; cohort programs (Bath, BU) run to a fixed timetable.

How did we choose the best online analytics master’s degrees?
We started with 25 online master’s degrees in business analytics, data science and applied statistics from AACSB-, EQUIS- or AMBA-accredited business schools and R1 or Russell Group universities. Each was scored on five criteria: total published fee for 2026 entry (verified on the school’s own tuition page in September 2026, not on aggregator sites); transparency of prerequisites, because the single biggest cause of dropout in analytics degrees is arriving without the maths; flexibility β self-paced or fixed cohort, and the maximum time allowed; curriculum currency, meaning whether machine learning, causal inference and generative-AI tooling appear in the core rather than as a single elective; and employer recognition of the awarding school in the candidate’s likely job market. We did not weight rankings from paid-placement sites. Where a program could not show a 2026 start date (Imperial) we kept it in the table with a warning rather than quietly dropping it. Fees are shown as published; international students should add platform fees, exam proctoring and, for US programs, any non-resident surcharge.
The 8 best online master’s in business analytics and data science in 2026
1. OMS Analytics β Georgia Institute of Technology
Online, self-paced Β· 36 credit hours Β· 24β36 months Β· $343 per credit (US) / $360 (international), total $12,348 / $12,960 as published 2026 Β· Fall 2026 start 24 August Β· No GRE/GMAT
Georgia Tech’s OMSA is the program every other online analytics degree is priced against. It is a joint offering of the Colleges of Computing, Engineering and the Scheller College of Business, with three tracks β analytical tools, business analytics and computational data analytics β and a 6-credit applied practicum with a real company dataset. For under $13,000 you get the same faculty and the same diploma as the on-campus MS. The trade-off is that OMSA is unforgiving: admission expects college-level probability and statistics, Python programming, and calculus with basic linear algebra, and the workload in ISYE 6501 and CSE 6040 knocks out a meaningful share of each cohort in the first year. Support is peer- and TA-led rather than concierge-style, and the self-paced structure suits disciplined engineers, finance analysts and consultants more than people who need a fixed timetable. If you meet the prerequisites, this is the default choice.
2. MSc Business Analytics (online, part-time) β Imperial College Business School
Online, part-time Β· 24β36 months Β· Β£17,200 per year for the 2025 cohort, fixed for both years (2026 fee not published) Β· Triple-accredited (AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS) Β· No start dates listed as of September 2026
Imperial’s online MSc Business Analytics was, for several years, the reference UK business-school analytics degree you could complete from Istanbul, Dubai or Singapore: a QS top-10 university, a curriculum built around machine learning, optimisation, visualisation and a capstone with a partner firm, and live online sessions with the same faculty as the London MSc. That is why it stays on our list. The honest caveat is that in September 2026 the programme page shows “no start dates available”, the admissions link redirects to the full-time on-campus MSc Business Analytics & AI (12 months, Β£47,000 for 2026 entry), and the college’s fee schedule lists only the 2024 and 2025 online cohorts at Β£17,200 per year. Read that as a programme in transition rather than one you can plan around. If you want the Imperial brand without waiting, the full-time London degree is the only guaranteed route; if you can wait, register your interest and keep Bath or Maryland as your backup.
3. Online MS in Business Analytics and AI β University of Maryland, Robert H. Smith School of Business
Online, asynchronous Β· 30 credits Β· as few as 16 months Β· approx. $25,000 total as published 2026 Β· AACSB Β· No prior coding required
Smith rebuilt its online analytics master’s around AI in 2025 and priced it at a flat, all-in figure that undercuts most private US business schools by half. The programme is fully asynchronous, which matters for candidates in time zones six or seven hours ahead of Washington, and it is explicitly designed for people who have never written code: optional bridge modules in calculus, statistics, R, Python and SQL run before the core. The curriculum covers data management, predictive modelling, machine learning, decision analytics and a sequence on generative AI in business, with a strong finance and consulting flavour from Smith’s faculty. Career support is real but US-centric. The drawback is depth: an engineer who already writes Python will find the early modules slow and would be better served by Georgia Tech or Illinois. For a finance manager, marketer or operations lead who wants an AACSB-accredited analytics credential at a fair price, it is the best US option in this list.
4. MSc Business Analytics (online) β University of Bath School of Management
100% online Β· 180 UK credits (12 taught units plus dissertation) Β· minimum 2 years 3 months Β· approx. Β£14,994 total, Β£833 per 10 credits as published 2026 Β· AMBA and EQUIS Β· Starts January, May, September
Bath’s online MSc is the pay-as-you-go option: fees are charged per 10-credit unit, three intakes a year mean you can start within months rather than waiting for an autumn cohort, and the same fee applies whether you are in Bristol or Baku. The syllabus is a genuine business-analytics degree rather than a rebadged statistics course β modules cover data management, machine learning, optimisation and simulation, forecasting, visualisation and analytics strategy, ending with a dissertation that many students base on their own employer’s data. Bath’s School of Management is one of the UK’s most consistently well-ranked outside London, and its online team (run in-house rather than through an online-programme-management company) has a good record on tutor responsiveness. Entry expects a quantitative first degree; programming is “an advantage” rather than required. The weaknesses are the slower minimum pace and a smaller alumni footprint outside the UK and the Gulf than Imperial or Warwick.
5. Online Master of Computer Science in Data Science β University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Online via Coursera Β· 32 credit hours Β· typically 2β3 years, up to 5 Β· $620 per credit (Illinois resident) / $793 (non-resident and international) for AY2026-27, approx. $19,840β$25,376 total Β· No GRE
Illinois’s MCS in Data Science is the option for people who want a computer-science degree from a top-five CS department rather than a business-school credential. The coursework is shared with the on-campus MCS: data mining, cloud computing, machine learning, data visualisation and applied statistics, with the Coursera platform used for lectures and Illinois-run assessment for credit. There is no thesis, and the eight-course structure lets a working engineer finish in two to three years. The prerequisites are real: applicants are expected to have data structures, algorithms, and mathematics through linear algebra and probability, and the admissions committee will look for evidence of programming maturity. Non-CS graduates who have only done a bootcamp usually struggle. This is also a degree that carries the Siebel School name, which hiring managers in software and platform companies recognise more readily than most business-analytics master’s. The drawback is the lack of business framing β you will learn to build a model, not to sell a project to a CFO.
6. Master of Science in Data Science (online) β University of Texas at Austin
Online Β· 30 credit hours (10 courses) Β· 18β36 months Β· $10,000 total tuition ($1,000 per course), plus fees, as published 2026 Β· No GRE Β· Fall and spring intakes
At $10,000 for a master’s from a top-10 US public university, UT Austin’s MSDS is the cheapest credible data-science degree in the English-speaking world. It is run jointly by the Departments of Computer Science and Statistics and Data Sciences, delivered through the Computer and Data Science Online unit, and covers probability, regression, machine learning, deep learning, optimisation and data engineering. Admission is selective on preparation rather than pedigree: the FAQ lists multivariable calculus, linear algebra and an introductory statistics course as prerequisites, plus programming experience in Python, R, Java or C++, and rejections for missing maths are common. Support is lighter than at Maryland or Bath, cohorts are large, and there is no business-school layer β this is a degree for people who want to become data scientists or quantitative analysts, not analytics managers. International applicants should add the international student fee. If you have the mathematics, it is hard to argue with the price.
7. MS in Applied Business Analytics β Boston University Metropolitan College
Online or on campus Β· 32 units Β· 8β16 months Β· $585β$1,030 per unit, approx. $27,920β$29,700 part-time as published 2026 Β· STEM-designated Β· No GRE/GMAT
BU’s applied business analytics master’s is the fastest finish on this list: part-time students complete in four semesters and full-timers in two, with two online starts per term so you rarely wait more than eight weeks to begin. The curriculum is deliberately practical β analytics foundations, data mining, marketing and web analytics, operational analytics and a set of finance-flavoured electives β and the entry bar is lower than for the data-science degrees: a pre-analytics laboratory brings non-quantitative graduates up to speed before the core module. U.S. News ranked BU’s online graduate business programs 12th for 2026. The trade-offs are price, which is the highest among the business-school options here once you add BU’s per-unit fees, and the fact that the degree sits in Metropolitan College rather than the Questrom School of Business, something recruiters who know BU will notice. For a mid-career professional who needs a US analytics degree done inside 16 months, it is the pragmatic pick.
8. Master of Science in Data Science β University of Colorado Boulder (on Coursera)
100% online Β· 30 credit hours Β· about 24 months Β· $15,750 total ($525 per credit) as published 2026 Β· Performance-based admission, no application
CU Boulder’s MS-DS is the degree for people who are not sure they can get in anywhere else, or who refuse to spend four months assembling recommendation letters. There is no traditional application: you enrol in a three-course pathway on Coursera, earn a 3.0 GPA or better, and you are admitted to the degree. You pay per course, so if you stop, you stop paying. The curriculum is a joint effort of the Department of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and the Information Science department and covers statistics, machine learning, data mining, visualisation and ethics; a business-analytics-style specialisation is not the focus. Because there is no admissions filter, the value of the credential depends on your portfolio and the projects you can show, and the pace is slow if you are only doing one course at a time. Prior familiarity with Python, R, calculus and linear algebra is recommended, and you will feel the gap if you lack it. As a low-risk way into a real R1 master’s, it is unmatched.
What maths and programming do you need before you apply?
Prerequisites are the single most important filter in this category, and schools are more candid about them on their FAQ pages than in their brochures. The table summarises what each program says it expects, as published in September 2026. “Bridge” means the school offers optional preparatory modules for candidates who lack the background.
| Program | Mathematics expected | Programming expected | Test / bridge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Georgia Tech OMSA | Probability/statistics, calculus, basic linear algebra (college level) | Python | No GRE; no bridge β self-prepare |
| Imperial online MSc | Quantitative first degree (2:1 or above) | SQL/R/Python “adds weight” | GMAT optional; pre-study modules |
| Maryland Smith | None required | None required | Bridge in calculus, statistics, R, Python, SQL |
| Bath online MSc | First degree with high quantitative content | “An advantage” | No test |
| Illinois MCS-DS | Linear algebra, probability, discrete maths | Data structures and algorithms; fluent coding | No GRE; no bridge |
| UT Austin MSDS | Multivariable calculus, linear algebra, intro statistics | Python, R, Java or C++ (OOP ideally) | GRE optional; no bridge |
| Boston University MSABA | None beyond a bachelor’s | None | No GRE/GMAT; AD 100 pre-analytics lab |
| CU Boulder MS-DS | Calculus and linear algebra recommended | Python or R recommended | No application; three-course pathway at 3.0 GPA |
A practical rule: if you cannot write a function in Python that reads a CSV, groups by a column and plots the result, and you cannot explain what a partial derivative is, you are not ready for Georgia Tech, Illinois or UT Austin. Spend three to four months on preparation β our courses directory lists the Python, statistics and SQL certificates that admissions teams most often accept as evidence β and apply the following intake. That delay is cheaper than a failed first semester.
Business analytics or data science: which degree title is better for your career?
The two titles overlap in maybe 60 per cent of their content β statistics, regression, machine learning fundamentals, SQL and visualisation appear in all eight programs. The difference is where the remaining 40 per cent goes. Business-analytics degrees (Maryland, Bath, BU, Imperial) spend it on decision framing, optimisation for operations, marketing and finance applications, and communicating results to non-technical executives; they are housed in business schools and carry AACSB, AMBA or EQUIS accreditation, which matters in Europe and the Gulf where employers still ask about it. Data-science degrees (Georgia Tech, Illinois, UT Austin, CU Boulder) spend it on deep learning, distributed computing, algorithms and software engineering, and sit in computing or statistics departments.
Map that to job titles and the choice is usually obvious. Analytics manager, FP&A lead, consulting associate, product analyst, revenue-operations manager: business analytics. Data scientist, machine-learning engineer, quantitative researcher, data engineer: data science. The mistake we see most often among finance and management professionals is choosing a data-science title for prestige and then discovering they will never be asked to implement gradient descent from scratch at work. The reverse mistake β a software engineer picking a business-analytics degree because the entry bar is lower β leads to two years of frustration with material they already know.
What does an online analytics master’s really cost once you add the extras?
Published tuition is the floor, not the total. Add, in rough order of size: platform and technology fees (Georgia Tech, Illinois and UT Austin all levy per-semester fees on top of the per-credit rate; budget $300β$1,000 per year); international surcharges where a program distinguishes residents from non-residents (Illinois’s $793 rather than $620 per credit is the clearest example, worth about $5,500 across the degree); proctored exam costs for programs using ProctorU or Honorlock, typically $15β$30 per exam; hardware and cloud credits β a data-science degree run on a five-year-old laptop is painful, and several courses assume you will spend on AWS or GCP beyond the free tier; and currency risk for anyone paying in lira, rand or rupee against a dollar or sterling fee over two to three years. Bath’s fixed per-unit fee and Imperial’s “fixed for both years” policy are genuine advantages here. Finally, count the opportunity cost of your evenings: at 15β20 hours a week for two years, the cheapest program on this list still consumes roughly 1,800 hours of your time, which is why the “can I actually finish?” question deserves more weight than the sticker price.
For a directory view of every accredited online master’s we track, including analytics, finance and management degrees, see online master’s degrees in the Kurums directory. Finance-focused readers should also look at our guide to the best online master’s in finance and accounting, where several of the same schools appear with different price points.
When is an online analytics master’s the wrong choice?
Three situations. First, when you need the credential in under a year: even BU’s 8-month track assumes full-time study, and a working professional should plan on 16 months minimum. A stackable certificate from the same schools β Georgia Tech’s and Illinois’s MOOC-based specialisations, for example β will get you the skills faster, and you can decide later whether to convert them to credit. Second, when your employer will pay for a residential program: Berkeley’s MIDS at approximately $82,226 is in the table precisely to show the top of the market, and if someone else is funding you, the live-class network of MIDS or a full-time MSc at Imperial or LSE is worth more than the $12,000 asynchronous alternative. Third, when your actual gap is domain knowledge rather than method: a treasury analyst who already runs regressions in Python does not need another statistics course; they need a CFA or a specialised finance master’s. Analytics degrees are excellent at teaching method and mediocre at teaching context, and no amount of Coursera will change that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is an online master’s in business analytics worth it in 2026?
For most professionals, yes, provided the fee is under about $30,000 and the school is one an employer in your market recognises. Analytics and AI roles continue to grow faster than general business roles, and the cheaper programs on this list pay back within two to three years for anyone moving from a generalist role into an analytics title. Above $50,000 the maths only works with employer sponsorship.
Which online analytics master’s has no GRE or GMAT requirement?
None of the eight shortlisted programs requires the GRE or GMAT. Georgia Tech, UT Austin, Illinois, Maryland, Bath and BU do not ask for a test; CU Boulder has no application at all; Imperial treats the GMAT as optional but says it adds weight for candidates with less quantitative degrees. Admission instead rests on transcripts, prerequisites and, for some, a short statement of purpose.
Do employers treat an online analytics degree the same as an on-campus one?
At the schools listed here, the diploma does not say “online”. Georgia Tech, Illinois, UT Austin, Maryland and Bath all award the same degree title as their campus programs. Employers in technology and finance care far more about the projects you can demonstrate and the school’s name than the delivery mode; only a minority of traditional employers in some markets still discount distance degrees.
Can I do an online analytics master’s from TΓΌrkiye, the Gulf or India?
Yes. All eight programs admit international students, and the asynchronous ones (Georgia Tech, Maryland, UT Austin, Illinois, CU Boulder) impose no time-zone constraints. Expect English-language test requirements if your first degree was not taught in English, an international fee tier at some US public universities, and occasional restrictions on proctored exams in certain countries. Pay attention to currency exposure on multi-year fees.
How many hours a week does an online analytics master’s take?
Schools publish 10β20 hours per week per course. In practice, quantitative courses at Georgia Tech, Illinois and UT Austin run at the top of that range for students who are rusty on maths, and business-school programs such as Maryland and Bath at the lower end. Taking two courses a semester while working full-time is the realistic maximum for most people.
Is Imperial’s online MSc Business Analytics still running?
As of September 2026 the programme page lists no available start dates and the college publishes fees only for the 2024 and 2025 cohorts (Β£17,200 per year). Imperial has not announced a closure, so it may reopen, but you should not build a 2026 plan around it. Contact the business school directly before assuming an intake.
