TL;DR: Google Forms fits internal collection when the company already lives in Google and does not need a branded public form. Tally fits public forms that must stay free until you need custom domains and no Tally mark β Pro is $29/mo. Typeform fits one-question-at-a-time marketing flows where you will pay for monthly response brackets (Basic $39/mo or $28 annual). Jotform fits payment-in-form, PDF and widget-heavy use on jotform.com/pricing caps.
A form builder is the tool that publishes a questionnaire and writes answers to email, a sheet or a CRM. AI on these pages means generated questions or insights. This is not Kurumsβ survey-platform article; it is the builder you embed on a site or send as a link.
Every entry uses the same fields: published pricing, free limits, response model, payment support and the main limitation. The order below is not a quality ranking. Products with a true $0 published plan appear first (Google Forms, then Tally). Typeform and Jotform follow because the useful work sits on paid response brackets.

Packaging was read on 14 September 2026. Typeform list prices moved during 2026; use the live monthly/yearly toggle. Tallyβs β99% of features freeβ line is Tallyβs own help text, bounded by fair use.
Two products are usable at $0 for real work. Two products sell response volume and design.
How form pricing actually works
Builders charge in three ways: nothing (Google, Tally Free), a flat Pro fee that unlocks branding (Tally), or a seat-plus-response bracket (Typeform, Jotform). If you collect 2,000 leads a month, Typeform Basicβs 100-response cap is the constraint, not the $39 headline.
The four providers in detail
1. Google Forms
NO EXTRA SKU
Best for: staff-facing forms when the company already has Google accounts and the audience does not need a designed marketing page.
| Published pricing | $0 as a Google app. Gemini or Workspace features follow the Workspace edition you already buy |
| Response model | No Typeform-style monthly response SKU. Drive storage is the practical ceiling |
| Payments in-form | Not a native payments product |
| Free plan / trial | The product is free |
| Main limitation | Weak branding and logic compared with Tally Pro or Typeform. Not the tool for a paid webinar checkout |
- Use it when the respondent is an employee or a vendor who will tolerate Googleβs UI.
- Pipe answers to Sheets; treat Apps Script as optional, not included professional support.
- If you need a custom domain and no Google header, you have outgrown Forms.
2. Tally
FREE UNTIL BRANDING
Best for: public lead and application forms that must remain free until you need a custom domain, no Tally mark, or retention controls.
| Published pricing | Free; Pro $29/mo or $290/year; Business $89/mo per tally.so/help/plans-and-pricing and tally.so/help/tally-pro |
| Response model | Unlimited forms and submissions on free within fair-use guidelines |
| Payments in-form | Available in the product family; confirm the live feature matrix for your plan |
| Free plan / trial | Permanent free plan. Paid is branding, domains, collaboration extras, partial submissions, drop-off insights |
| Main limitation | Fair use. Tally is bootstrapped and says so. Do not put regulated datasets on Free without reading retention rules |
- Stay on Free if the only missing piece is βit works.β Pay Pro when the Tally logo or tally.so URL is the problem.
- Business is the row for data-retention and email-verification controls.
- Do not buy Typeform Basic solely because Tally looks simpler β price the response cap first.
3. Typeform
RESPONSE BRACKETS
Best for: marketing and research flows where one question at a time is the product, and you will size a monthly response cap.
| Published pricing | Basic $39/mo or $28 annual; Plus $79 / $56; Business $129 / $91 on typeform.com/pricing (14 September 2026). Growth Flow and Talent are separate higher SKUs |
| Response model | Basic 100/mo, Plus 1,000/mo, Business 10,000/mo. Crossing the cap means an upgrade |
| Payments in-form | Supported on paid plans; check the current feature grid |
| Free plan / trial | A small free plan exists so you can build. It is not a production lead engine |
| Main limitation | You pay for the interaction model and the cap. 2,000 responses/mo does not fit Basic |
- Count last quarterβs form completes before you pick Basic vs Plus.
- Remove-branding and custom subdomain start at Plus on the public grid.
- AI insights and video questions sit on higher rows β do not assume they are in $39.
4. Jotform
WIDGETS AND DOCUMENTS
Best for: teams that need payments, file uploads, PDF documents or a large template library more than a conversational UI.
| Published pricing | Free plus paid tiers on jotform.com/pricing. Caps are submissions, fields and users per bracket |
| Response model | Monthly submission caps on free and lower paid rows |
| Payments in-form | Core reason to pick Jotform over Google Forms |
| Free plan / trial | Yes, with tight caps. Read the live bracket before a campaign |
| Main limitation | Free looks generous until a campaign week blows the submission cap |
- If checkout happens on the form, start here or on Typeform paid β not on Google Forms.
- PDF and kiosk features are Jotformβs difference, not βprettier radio buttons.β
- Map submission volume to a paid bracket the same way you would on Typeform.
Kurums Match: which one fits your situation
Pick the line that matches how the form will be used.
Internal HR, IT or ops form
Google Forms. Do not pay Typeform for a PTO request.
Public lead form and no budget
Tally Free. Move to Pro when branding matters.
Marketing owns completion rate
Typeform, sized to monthly responses. Basic is only honest at β€100 completes.
The form takes payment or outputs a PDF
Jotform paid tier that includes those widgets.
We already run surveys as a research programme
See Kurumsβ survey-form comparison. Do not force that job into Tally Free.
Buying tip: export 90 days of completes from the current tool. That number picks Typeform/Jotform faster than a feature matrix.
How this comparison was put together
Vendor pricing and Tally help pages, 14 September 2026. Separate from survey & form software. No vendor paid for placement. Kurums did not A/B test conversion on each builder.
Order is cheapest published entry first. No badge reflects a commercial relationship.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tally really unlimited on free?
That is what Tally publishes, with fair-use rules. Read the help article before you put employee or health data in it.
Why is Typeform more expensive than Tally Pro?
You pay for the conversational UI and a response bracket, not for βa form exists.β
Can Google Forms take cards?
Not as a first-class payments product. Use Jotform or Typeform paid, or send the payer to Stripe/Square.
Do I need both a form builder and a survey tool?
Often yes. Lead capture and research programmes have different caps and analytics.
Did we measure completion rate?
No. Run your own 50-response test.
