Buyer's guide Β· Finance

We compared six B2B payments platforms for paying suppliers on published pricing, free plans, payment rails and fees, international reach, accounting integration and the main limitation.

By Kurums EditorialPricing checked 12 October 2026Updated 13 October 2026How we make money
TL;DR
  • Small business paying a few vendors: Melio β€” A free Go plan with 5 free ACH payments a month, and ACH at $0.50 beyond that.
  • SMB wanting AP plus AR in one tool: BILL β€” Plans from $49 per user per month with ACH at $0.59, plus a network BILL says has 8.3M members.
  • Company paying overseas suppliers often: Airwallex β€” Free Explore plan with local transfers to 120+ countries and published FX markups of 0.5% to 1.0%.
  • Mid-market team with global payees and tax forms: Tipalti β€” AP from $99 per month, payments to 200+ countries and tax compliance for the US, UK, EU and Canada.
  • Mid-market or enterprise AP wanting card rebates: Corpay β€” Supplier enablement across a network of 640,000+ vendors, with rebates on virtual card payments.

B2B payments software automates how businesses pay suppliers, contractors and other vendors. Instead of keying payments into a bank portal, writing checks or emailing remittances, finance teams route approved bills through a platform that pays by ACH, check, virtual card, wire or local transfer, collects vendor payment details, and syncs every payment back to the accounting system. Many tools also handle receivables, international payouts, vendor tax forms and approval workflows. Buyers range from small businesses paying a handful of bills each month to mid-market and enterprise AP teams running thousands of payments. This guide focuses on paying suppliers; corporate cards and customer payment processing are covered in separate kurums.com comparisons.

We compared each platform on six fields: published pricing, free plan or trial, payment rails and per-payment fees, international reach, accounting and ERP integration, and the main limitation. Platforms are listed in practical buyer order, from free and low-cost SMB tools to quote-led mid-market and enterprise platforms. The order is not a quality ranking. We checked subscription prices and transaction fees on official vendor pricing pages on 12 October 2026, and say Quote-based where none are published. This guide is informational, not financial advice; fees change, so confirm current terms before you sign.

Pricing checked 12 October 2026 on each vendor's official pricing or product pages. Prices are list prices in USD unless stated; "Quote-based" means the vendor does not publish a price. Order follows buyer fit and pricing transparency, not a quality score. Confirm billing basis, minimums and taxes with the vendor before you buy. Methodology is described below.

The 6 options in detail

1

Melio

Best for small businesses paying US vendors

Best for: Small businesses that want free or low-cost bill pay with the option to pay by card even when vendors only accept ACH or check.

AttributeMelio
Published pricingGo $0; Core $25/month ($20 annually); Boost $55 ($44); Unlimited $80 ($64); Platinum custom; extra users $10/month
Free plan or trialFree Go plan for 1 user with 5 free ACH a month; paid plans free for 90 days
Payment rails and per-payment feesACH $0.50, check $1.50, wire $10, same-day ACH or instant 1% (max $75); card payments 2.9%
International reachGlobal ACH in USD $20 flat or local currency at conversion rates; global card 2.9% plus fees
Accounting and ERP integrationTwo-way sync with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero and NetSuite
Main limitationCard payments cost 2.9%, and fast or international options add up quickly at volume
  • Paid plans include 20, 50 or unlimited free ACH payments per month depending on tier.
  • Receivables are included: customers can pay you by ACH free or by card at 2.9%.
  • Melio's site links to FAQs about Xero acquiring Melio, so confirm how ownership affects your plan and integrations before committing long term.

Our take: Melio is built for small businesses that want to stop writing checks without paying for a heavy AP system. The free Go plan covers one user and five free ACH payments a month, and paid tiers raise the free ACH allowance and add users and features after a 90-day free period. Fees are published for every rail: $0.50 per ACH, $1.50 per check, 1% capped at $75 for same-day ACH or instant transfer, and 2.9% when you pay by card, which lets you extend cash flow by paying with a card even when the vendor receives ACH or a check. Melio says more than 100,000 business owners use it. In a trial, run a month of real bills through it and total the fees by payment method. Compared with BILL, Melio is cheaper for small teams and lighter on approvals; compared with Airwallex, its international payments are pricier unless you pay in local currency.

2

BILL

Best for SMBs wanting AP and AR together

Best for: Small and midsize businesses and their accounting firms that want approvals, payables, receivables and accounting sync in one platform.

AttributeBILL
Published pricingEssentials $49, Team $65, Corporate $89 per user/month; Enterprise custom; Spend and Expense $0
Free plan or trialFree trial in most cases for AP and AR plans (length not stated)
Payment rails and per-payment feesACH $0.59, check $1.99, virtual card free, instant 1% ($9.99 min, $100 max), card 2.9%
International reachInternational FX wire or local transfer free (exchange rate applies); USD wire $19.99
Accounting and ERP integrationQuickBooks Online and Xero sync from Team; NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Dynamics, Acumatica on Enterprise
Main limitationPer-user pricing adds up for larger teams, and ERP syncs need the Enterprise plan
  • BILL reports 8.3M network members paying or getting paid through BILL, which simplifies vendor onboarding.
  • Team adds AI multi-line bill coding and cash flow forecasting for QuickBooks Online users.
  • Every user who needs access counts toward the per-user fee, and automatic ERP sync for NetSuite or Sage Intacct requires Enterprise pricing.

Our take: BILL combines payables and receivables with approvals, a vendor network and accounting sync, which makes it a common choice for SMBs and the accounting firms that serve them. Essentials at $49 per user per month uses manual CSV import and export; most teams will want Team at $65 for automatic QuickBooks Online and Xero sync, or Corporate at $89 for custom approval policies, multi-entity accounting, SSO and procurement. Per-payment fees are published: $0.59 for ACH, $1.99 for a mailed check, free virtual card payments and free international FX wires with an exchange rate applied. BILL's network of 8.3 million members means many vendors already have payment details on file. In a trial, count how many users truly need seats, since approver discounts on Corporate can help, and confirm which accounting plan your ERP needs. Compared with Melio, BILL offers stronger controls at a higher subscription; compared with Tipalti, it fits smaller teams with mostly domestic suppliers.

Airwallex

Best for frequent international supplier payments

Best for: Companies that pay overseas suppliers regularly and want multi-currency accounts, local rails and bill pay with low FX costs.

AttributeAirwallex
Published pricingExplore $0; Grow $12 per user/month plus platform fee by team size; Accelerate custom; fees per legal entity
Free plan or trialFree Explore plan with up to 10 free spend users
Payment rails and per-payment feesDomestic USD and CAD transfers free; SWIFT $15 to $25; FX 0.5% above interbank for majors, 1.0% others
International reachLocal transfers to 120+ countries included; SWIFT to 200+ countries
Accounting and ERP integrationNetSuite, Xero and QuickBooks; imports chart of accounts and bills, syncs payments back
Main limitationBulk approvals, rules and purchase orders need Grow; 3-way matching only on Accelerate
  • Published FX markups let you calculate the cost of foreign-currency supplier payments before you pay.
  • Bill Pay supports OCR bill capture, batch payments and multi-layer approvals by currency and amount.
  • Advanced AP controls such as bulk approvals and vendor approval workflows require Grow, and 3-way matching requires a custom Accelerate plan.

Our take: Airwallex is a global business account with bill pay built in, which suits companies whose supplier base is international. You hold balances in multiple currencies, pay through local rails in more than 120 countries without a transfer fee, and convert at 0.5% above interbank for major currencies or 1.0% for others. Domestic US and Canadian transfers are free, and SWIFT costs $15 to $25. The free Explore plan includes bill upload or email, OCR data extraction, domestic and international bill payment, AI coding and batch payments; Grow adds bulk approvals, rules-based automation, vendor approval workflows and purchase orders. In a trial, pay one supplier in each of your main currencies and compare the landed cost with your bank. Compared with Melio and BILL, Airwallex is typically cheaper for cross-border payments but less focused on US check workflows; compared with Tipalti, it lacks built-in tax form collection but has a free plan.

Tipalti

Best for global AP with tax compliance

Best for: Mid-market companies paying many international suppliers or payees that need supplier onboarding, tax forms and multi-entity AP.

AttributeTipalti
Published pricingAccounts Payable from $99/month; Mass Payments from $249/month; add-on modules quoted; transaction fees extra
Free plan or trialNo free tier; no trial listed; custom quotes via sales
Payment rails and per-payment feesACH, wire, check, Tipalti Card and local rails; per-invoice and per-payment fees not published
International reach200+ countries and territories, 120 currencies; tax ID validation across 62 countries
Accounting and ERP integrationNetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP and API integrations
Main limitationTransaction fees are not published, so total cost depends on the quote
  • Unlimited users with no per-approver fees, and a self-service supplier portal for onboarding.
  • Tax compliance covers the US, UK, EU and Canada, with OFAC and AML screening and SOC 2 Type II.
  • The starting subscription is low, but per-invoice and per-payment fees are quote-based, which makes early cost comparison harder.

Our take: Tipalti is designed for finance teams that pay suppliers or payees across many countries and entities. Suppliers onboard themselves through a portal that collects bank details and tax forms, Tipalti validates tax IDs and screens payees, and payments go out in 120 currencies through local rails, ACH, wire, check or the Tipalti Card. Invoice capture, PO matching and approval routing are supported by a set of AI agents, and add-on modules cover procurement, expenses and treasury. Subscriptions start at $99 per month for Accounts Payable and $249 for Mass Payments, with unlimited users, but transaction fees vary by method and destination and are quoted. In evaluation, ask for a fee schedule based on your real payment mix and entity count, and test the supplier portal with a few international vendors. Compared with BILL, Tipalti is stronger on global payees and tax compliance; compared with Routable, it covers more AP workflow but with less published pricing.

Routable

Best for high-volume vendor payouts

Best for: Marketplaces, gig platforms and operations-heavy companies that run large batches of vendor or contractor payouts.

AttributeRoutable
Published pricingGrowth $1,250/month (annual billing saves 20%); Scale and Enterprise custom
Free plan or trialNo free plan or trial listed; demo request
Payment rails and per-payment feesDomestic, international and instant payments, mass payouts via dashboard, CSV or API; per-transaction fees not listed
International reach220+ countries and territories in 140+ currencies
Accounting and ERP integrationNetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online and Xero; API and webhooks
Main limitationHigh entry price; invoice OCR, PO matching and advanced approvals start at Scale
  • Unlimited user seats, vendor onboarding and tax form collection with 1099 and 1042-S filing options.
  • API-first payouts suit platforms paying thousands of vendors programmatically.
  • At $1,250 per month for the entry plan, Routable makes sense only at meaningful payout volume.

Our take: Routable focuses on paying large numbers of vendors, contractors and partners efficiently. Payments can be sent from a dashboard, through CSV uploads or via API, which suits marketplaces, gig economy companies, insurers and logistics businesses that pay many recipients. Vendors onboard themselves, and add-ons cover W-8 and W-9 collection, 1099 and 1042-S filing, OFAC monitoring and bank account validation. The Growth plan costs $1,250 per month and includes unlimited seats, accounting and ERP integrations, domestic, international and instant payments, mass payouts and API access; invoice OCR, PO matching and advanced approval workflows start at Scale. Per-transaction fees are not listed on the pricing page. In a demo, ask for transaction pricing by rail and the vendor count included in your plan. Compared with Tipalti, Routable is more payouts- and API-focused; compared with BILL or Melio, it is built for higher volume and a larger budget.

Corpay

Best for mid-market AP seeking card rebates

Best for: Mid-market and enterprise AP teams that want payments outsourced, suppliers enrolled for electronic payment and rebates on virtual card spend.

AttributeCorpay
Published pricingQuote-based; customized rebate analysis offered
Free plan or trialNo free plan or trial; sales consultation
Payment rails and per-payment feesSingle file upload routed to ACH, virtual card or check by vendor enrollment; same-day ACH available
International reachCross-border payments in 140+ currencies to 200+ countries through Corpay's separate cross-border business
Accounting and ERP integrationNetSuite, Dynamics 365, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Acumatica; partners include SAP and Trimble
Main limitationPricing is not published, and value depends on how many suppliers accept virtual cards
  • Corpay handles vendor outreach and enrollment across a network of 640,000+ electronic-payment vendors.
  • Rebates on virtual card payments; Corpay cites more than $800M in annual client rebates.
  • Rebate claims depend on supplier card acceptance, and suppliers may pass card acceptance costs back through pricing.

Our take: Corpay Payments Automation takes a different approach from the software tools above. You upload one payment file from your ERP, and Corpay routes each payment by the method each vendor has enrolled in: virtual card where accepted, then ACH, then check. Its team handles supplier outreach and enrollment across a network of more than 640,000 vendors, so your AP staff do not chase bank details. When suppliers accept virtual cards, your company earns rebates, which Corpay says average $43,000 a year per client. Integrations cover NetSuite, Dynamics 365, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks and Acumatica, and Corpay's cross-border business adds international payments. Pricing is quoted, along with a custom rebate analysis. In evaluation, ask for the analysis using your actual vendor file and confirm how vendor fees are handled. Compared with BILL or Tipalti, Corpay is more of an outsourced payment service than self-serve software, and it suits companies with large domestic supplier bases.

How to choose B2B payments software

Profile your payment mix

Pull last quarter's payments and count them by method, currency and vendor. A business paying 40 domestic bills a month by ACH has different needs from one paying 2,000 contractors in 30 countries. Per-payment fees matter most at volume: ACH ranges from $0.50 at Melio to $0.59 at BILL, while checks, same-day transfers and SWIFT wires cost more. If many payments are international, compare FX markups, such as Airwallex's published 0.5% to 1.0%, because they often outweigh flat fees. Include the share of vendors still paid by check.

Match approvals and controls to risk

Payment fraud and errors usually come from weak approvals and vendor changes. Check whether each platform supports multi-step approvals by amount, dual control, role-based permissions and alerts on vendor bank detail changes. BILL reserves custom approval policies for Corporate and dual control for Enterprise, and Airwallex adds bulk approvals and vendor approval workflows on Grow. Smaller businesses may be fine with basic approvals, but anyone handling large payments should test how a vendor bank change is verified before money moves. Ask for the audit log.

Check accounting and ERP sync

Payments should land in your ledger without re-keying. Confirm that the platform syncs bills, payments and vendors both ways with your system, and whether that sync is on the plan you can afford. BILL offers QuickBooks Online and Xero sync from Team but NetSuite and Sage Intacct only on Enterprise, while Melio lists NetSuite among its sync options. Tipalti, Routable and Corpay focus on mid-market ERPs. Ask how sync errors are flagged and resolved, since that is where AP time is lost.

Plan supplier onboarding

A payments platform is only as fast as vendor enrollment. Networks help: BILL reports 8.3 million members, and Corpay enrolls vendors on your behalf. Tipalti and Routable use self-service portals that collect bank details and tax forms. Consider how vendors will feel about each method: some suppliers dislike virtual cards because of acceptance fees, and others insist on checks. Choose a platform that lets you pay each vendor by its preferred method without manual workarounds. Run a pilot with ten representative suppliers first.

Account for tax and compliance work

If you pay contractors or international payees, tax forms and screening become part of the payment process. Tipalti covers tax compliance for the US, UK, EU and Canada and validates tax IDs in 62 countries; Routable offers W-8 and W-9 collection and 1099 and 1042-S filing; BILL includes 1099 filing among its AP features. Building this into payments reduces year-end work. Confirm with your tax adviser which forms you need; this guide is not tax advice. Ask whether form collection blocks payment until complete.

How B2B payments software pricing works

B2B payment platforms combine a subscription with per-payment fees. Subscriptions are either flat monthly fees, such as Melio's $0 to $80 tiers, Tipalti's starting $99 for AP and Routable's $1,250 for Growth, or per-user fees, such as BILL's $49 to $89 per user per month and Airwallex Grow at $12 per user plus a platform fee. Per-user models get expensive as more approvers join, so check whether approver-only seats are discounted. Annual billing usually saves around 20%, as Melio and Routable show. Check what happens at renewal and how many payments or vendors each plan includes.

Transaction fees vary widely by rail. Standard ACH is cheap, from $0.50 to $0.59 per payment on published SMB plans, and some plans include a monthly allowance of free ACH. Mailed checks cost $1.50 to $1.99, and expedited checks or same-day transfers cost much more. Paying by credit card typically costs 2.9%. International payments add wire fees or FX markups; Airwallex publishes 0.5% for major currencies, while BILL lists free FX wires with an exchange rate applied. Always ask how the exchange rate is set. Ask for the margin in writing.

Some platforms earn from the other side of the transaction. Virtual card programs, such as Corpay's, generate rebates for you and acceptance costs for suppliers, and receivers may pay fees for instant transfers or card receipts, as BILL's receiver fees show. Model the total cost across your real payment mix, include the effect on supplier relationships, and revisit the comparison once a year as volumes change.

Export last quarter's payments by method, currency and vendor, then ask each shortlisted vendor to price that exact file including subscription, per-payment and FX costs. It is the fastest way to compare quotes fairly. This is not financial advice.

B2B Payments Software: frequently asked questions

What is B2B payments software?

B2B payments software automates paying suppliers, contractors and other businesses. It typically captures bills, routes them for approval, pays by ACH, check, card, wire or local transfer, collects vendor payment details and syncs payments back to accounting. Some platforms also handle receivables, international payouts and vendor tax forms. It sits between accounts payable automation and banking, and is distinct from corporate cards and customer payment processing.

What is the cheapest way to pay suppliers?

For domestic US suppliers, standard ACH is usually cheapest: $0.50 per payment at Melio and $0.59 at BILL on published pricing, with free ACH allowances on several Melio plans and free domestic USD transfers at Airwallex. Checks cost more, and paying by card typically adds 2.9%. For international suppliers, local rails with low FX markups often cost less than SWIFT wires. Prices checked 12 October 2026.

Can I pay a supplier by credit card if they do not accept cards?

Some platforms allow it. Melio lets you pay vendors by card even where cards are not accepted, charging a 2.9% fee, and the vendor receives ACH or a check. BILL also lists a 2.9% fee for paying by credit or debit card. This can extend your cash flow and earn card rewards, but the fee often outweighs the benefit unless you need the float. This is not financial advice.

What is the difference between B2B payments software and AP automation?

AP automation covers the full payables workflow: invoice capture, coding, PO matching, approvals and payment. B2B payments software focuses on executing and tracking payments, vendor enrollment and payment methods. Many products do both, such as BILL and Tipalti, while others are payments-first, such as Routable for mass payouts or Airwallex for international transfers. Choose based on where your bottleneck is.

How do virtual card rebates work for supplier payments?

When you pay a supplier with a virtual card, the card network charges the supplier an acceptance fee, and part of that is shared with you as a rebate. Providers such as Corpay enroll suppliers to accept virtual cards and pay rebates on that spend. The value depends on how many suppliers accept cards and whether they pass costs back through prices. Ask for a rebate analysis based on your own vendor file.

Do B2B payment platforms handle 1099 forms?

Several do. BILL lists 1099 filing among its AP and AR features, Routable offers W-8 and W-9 collection plus 1099 and 1042-S filing as add-ons, and Tipalti collects and validates tax forms with compliance for the US, UK, EU and Canada. Check whether filing is included or extra on your plan. Confirm your reporting obligations with a tax professional; this is not tax advice.
