The situation

The HR director of a Tri-City engineering contractor has won work tied to the Pomeranian nuclear site and offshore wind bases and needs welders, electricians and data engineers. The welders cannot be found; the data engineers want Warsaw-level B2B rates.

In Kraków, a 34-year-old accountant in a shared-services centre has watched her invoice-processing team shrink by a third since automation arrived and is weighing a controlling qualification against a data-analytics course.

Poland enters 2026 with one of the tightest labour markets in the EU. Statistics Poland (GUS) reports a Labour Force Survey unemployment rate of 3.3% in Q1 2026 and a registered rate of 5.8% in September 2026, and the Barometr zawodów 2026 lists 17 occupations in nationwide shortage. Yet Gi Group’s 2026 barometer finds only 13.7% of companies planning to add headcount and 9.8% planning cuts, the most since 2017.

This guide, part of the Rising Professions 2026 hub, ranks the fastest growing jobs in Poland in 2026 using the occupational barometer, GUS data, Polish job-board statistics and the 2026 salary guides from Hays, Antal and Grafton.

Key Takeaways

Which jobs are rising fastest in Poland in 2026?
AI and machine-learning engineers lead on growth (justjoin.it AI/ML postings tripled in a year); doctors, nurses, psychologists, electricians, truck drivers and welders lead on breadth of shortage in the Barometr zawodów 2026.

What is driving demand?
Defence spending at 4.8% of GDP, the first nuclear plant, offshore wind, a PLN 180 billion grid programme, the AI upgrade of business services, and an ageing population.

What do the roles pay?
AI architects reach PLN 40,000 gross a month (about USD 10,170) in Antal’s 2026 report; the national median was PLN 7,447, and most shortage trades sit at PLN 7,000–9,000.

Which jobs are rising fastest in Poland in 2026?

AI and machine-learning engineers, cybersecurity specialists and data architects are growing fastest by job-ad volume, while physicians, nurses, psychologists, electricians, truck drivers and welders show the widest shortages across Poland’s 380 counties in the Barometr zawodów 2026.

The ranking blends vacancy growth, breadth of shortage in the national barometer (counties, or powiats, forecasting a deficit) and pay momentum. Pay figures are typical advertised or reported gross monthly ranges at the NBP rate of 3.93 PLN per USD. LinkedIn published no Poland edition of Jobs on the Rise 2026.

11 Carer for elderly or disabled people Demographic ageing Barometr 2026: 202 counties, up 5 Median PLN 5,700 (USD 1,450), Sedlak & Sedlak 2026

The list is barbell-shaped: a thin layer of highly paid technology roles sits on a broad base of licensed, physical and care professions. The barometer found no occupation in national surplus for the fifth year running, and for physicians and nurses three-quarters of county labour offices blame a lack of candidates rather than wages.

What is driving demand for these professions?

Five forces are pulling Polish hiring in 2026: the energy transition, a record defence budget, the AI-led upgrade of business services, an ageing population and a shrinking workforce.

Energy transition: nuclear, offshore wind and the grid

Poland’s first nuclear plant, three Westinghouse AP1000 units at Lubiatowo-Kopalino in Pomerania, moved to site in 2026: Bechtel took over site management in August and agreed main EPC terms with Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe in September. Bechtel expects to employ about 600–700 specialists locally plus 200–300 from the United States, with the first unit targeted for 2033.

Baltic Power, the 1.2 GW Orlen–Northland offshore wind farm, sent first power to the grid on 10 July 2026; its Łeba base will employ about 40 operator and over 50 contractor staff, and the approved offshore pipeline totals 18 GW. Behind both sits PSE’s PLN 180 billion (about USD 45.8 billion) grid programme to 2035. All of it needs electricians, welders and fitters.

Defence spending at 4.8% of GDP

The 2026 budget earmarks roughly PLN 200 billion (about USD 50.9 billion) for defence, 4.8% of GDP and the highest ratio in NATO; Deloitte estimates cumulative spending of about PLN 1.9 trillion over 2025–2035.

The effect reaches beyond uniformed services, short in 260 counties: the K2PL tank, Borsuk vehicle and Miecznik frigate programmes pull in welders, machinists, electronics technicians and cybersecurity staff, and the East Shield border programme adds construction demand in the east.

AI, data and the upgrade of the SSC/GBS sector

Business-services centres employed about 488,700 people at end-Q1 2025, up 6.2% year on year, and exported USD 42.3 billion of services in 2024, according to ABSL. Grafton’s Business Services 2026 report describes competence replacing scale as controlling, analytics and ESG reporting move in and simple processing moves out.

AI/ML postings on justjoin.it tripled in a year, and Antal’s 2026 report singles out AI developers, cybersecurity specialists, data architects and DevOps engineers for the strongest pay increases even as the IT average rose only 2%.

Health, ageing and mental health

Healthcare was the only sector with double-digit growth in job ads in July 2026, up 13% year on year in Grant Thornton’s portal index, and the barometer’s explanation is demographic: more doctors retiring than graduating.

Psychologists and therapists, short in 309 counties, are the quiet surprise of 2026 as schools, employers and the public mental-health reform hire from one small pool.

Demographics and a changing migrant workforce

GUS counted 98,700 vacancies at end-Q2 2026, with manufacturing holding the most (24,700) and construction the highest vacancy rate (1.59%). The barometer names an ageing workforce without generational replacement as the main reason candidates are missing. GUS counted over 759,000 Ukrainians in work in September 2025, but a Grupa Progres survey found only 22% intend to stay abroad after the war.

Since 1 June 2025 foreign-worker filings run digitally through praca.gov.pl, the labour-market test is abolished and fines for illegal employment run from PLN 3,000 to 50,000; the simplified route for Ukrainians lasts at least until March 2027.

What do the rising jobs pay in Poland?

Advertised pay in Poland’s rising roles runs from about PLN 5,700 a month for care workers to PLN 40,000 and above for AI and security architects, against a national median of PLN 7,447 in January 2026 and an Antal specialist-and-manager average of PLN 16,400.

Data Architect PLN 28,000–35,000 (USD 7,120–8,900) Grafton IT Salary and Trends Report 2025
Physician (family medicine / specialist) Median PLN 16,060 (USD 4,080) / PLN 9,860 (USD 2,510) Sedlak & Sedlak OBW 2026
Nurse Median PLN 8,970 (USD 2,280) Sedlak & Sedlak OBW 2026

Pay is rising faster than prices, but unevenly. The average enterprise-sector wage reached PLN 9,583 in December 2025, up 8.6% year on year, while Antal measured just 2% growth for IT against stronger rises in finance, law and SSC/BPO. Hays reports three in four employers plan raises in 2026 but only 5% expect more than 10%.

Pay transparency is now law. Since 23 December 2025 employers must tell every candidate the expected pay before the first interview and may not ask about salary history; full transposition of the EU directive is due by 7 June 2026. Only 32% of Pracuj.pl ads carried a range in H1 2026. Geography adds a premium: Kraków average pay near PLN 11,700 compares with roughly PLN 8,000 in Kielce.

Which skills, degrees and certifications unlock these roles?

Most of Poland’s rising roles sit behind a licence or certificate: chamber registration for clinicians, SEP qualifications for electricians, ISO 9606 for welders, GWO for offshore technicians, and cloud, security or data certifications for technology roles.

  • AI / ML and data engineers: a computer-science degree is the default, but AWS Certified Machine Learning, Azure AI Engineer Associate or Google Professional Data Engineer plus a portfolio increasingly suffice.
  • Cybersecurity specialists: CompTIA Security+ at entry level, then CISSP, CISM or OSCP.
  • Physicians, nurses and midwives: a recognised degree, registration with the regional medical or nursing chamber and Polish at B1–B2; non-EU clinicians use nostrification or the conditional-licence route.
  • Psychologists and psychotherapists: a five-year psychology master’s plus recognised four-year psychotherapy training.
  • Electricians and power engineers: SEP qualification certificates (Group 1, E for operation, D for supervision), renewable every five years.
  • Welders: PN-EN ISO 9606-1 certificates for the process (MAG 135, TIG 141) and EN 1090 for structural steel.
  • Offshore wind technicians: GWO Basic Safety and Basic Technical Training plus an SEP certificate.
  • Accountants and controllers: ACCA or CIMA for GBS centres, the Polish certified-accountant path for domestic reporting, plus Power BI or SQL and CSRD knowledge.

Where are the jobs? Regional hotspots

Warsaw still posts the most vacancies, but the fastest growth in 2026 is in Wrocław and Poznań, while Pomerania has become the centre of gravity for energy-transition trades thanks to nuclear and offshore wind.

Region Why it matters in 2026 Source
Warsaw 45,900 new ads in July 2026 (+5% YoY); 29% of IT offers; AI, cybersecurity, compliance Grant Thornton July 2026; justjoin.it Q1 2026
Kraków 17,900 ads (+2%); largest business-services cluster, about 108,000 staff in 312 centres Grant Thornton 2026; ABSL 2025
Wrocław 14,700 ads, fastest-growing big city at +9%; electronics, automotive, engineering R&D Grant Thornton July 2026
Tri-City and Pomerania 10,600 ads (−2%), but the nuclear site and Baltic Power’s Łeba base drive welding, electrical and nuclear-engineering demand Grant Thornton 2026; Baltic Power 2026; PAP 2026
Poznań 10,300 ads (+7%); logistics, automotive, shared services Grant Thornton July 2026

Which professions are losing ground?

Junior developers, mobile and UX specialists, commodity back-end developers and simple back-office processing roles are losing ground in 2026, while six construction trades slipped from shortage to balance as building output cooled. None is collapsing; all are being re-priced.

Only 5% of IT offers on justjoin.it in Q1 2026 were for juniors, and No Fluff Jobs recorded falls of 21.1% in the lower salary range for mobile roles and 17.3% for UX in a quarter; Antal found back-end developer pay fell most. In business services, Grafton lists simple customer service, order processing and basic data management as the functions being automated.

The 2026 barometer moved bricklayers, roofers, construction labourers, car mechanics, accounting clerks and pre-school teachers out of the deficit list after construction output fell. Enterprise-sector employment fell 0.7% in the year to December 2025.

Pro Tip: Before publishing a role, check the Barometr zawodów forecast card for the powiat where the job sits. The same electrician vacancy is a shortage role in Pomerania but balanced in parts of Podkarpacie; the local forecast tells you whether to budget for relocation, a training contract or a foreign-worker route.

How should employers in Poland hire for scarce rising roles?

Employers should benchmark pay and publish it, hire for demonstrable skills, build internal pipelines, use the digital foreign-worker route early, and consider an employer of record where no Polish entity exists; 45.7% of companies struggled to fill at least one role group in 2026.

  • Benchmark, then disclose. Over half of employers in the Gi Group barometer cite salary expectations as the top reason hiring fails; set ranges from the 2026 guides and publish them.
  • Hire for skills, not labels. Skills mismatch is the second obstacle (44.6%). Replace degree filters with work-sample tests and certification checks.
  • Build internal mobility. 78% of ABSL centres raised training spend, and Hays finds 48% of employees considering a move in 2026.
  • Invest in vocational pipelines. Vocational teachers are themselves short in over 250 counties, so company academies for welders and electricians pay back quickly.
  • Use the foreign-worker route early. Filings run through praca.gov.pl with no labour-market test, and the EU Blue Card now accepts six-month contracts. Our Expats in Poland guides cover relocation and onboarding.
  • No Polish entity? Use an EOR or agency. An employer of record lets a foreign company hire compliantly within weeks. See our guide to recruitment agencies and HR consultancies in Poland and the recruiting in Poland playbook.
  • Sell stability. Grafton reports about 30% of passive candidates who received an offer stayed put.

Bars show how many of Poland’s 380 counties forecast a deficit of each occupation in 2026 (breadth of shortage, not growth rate). AI and data roles are outside the barometer’s 168 occupational groups.
Risk: Overpaying for the “AI” label is the most expensive mistake in Polish tech hiring this year: Antal shows AI specialists at up to PLN 40,000 while the IT average rose just 2%. The second risk is compliance: asking about current pay has been unlawful since 23 December 2025, and hiring a foreign worker without the praca.gov.pl filing carries fines up to PLN 50,000.

What should job seekers and career changers do in 2026?

Career changers should target roles with both growth and a credential moat, pick the county as carefully as the profession, and earn the gatekeeper certificate first.

  1. Choose a lane with a moat. The strongest roles combine demand with a licence that limits supply: SEP, ISO 9606, medical registration, GWO or a security certification.
  2. Check the local forecast. Use the Barometr zawodów county cards to see whether your occupation is in deficit where you live or will move.
  3. Get the gatekeeper credential first. For trades, the SEP or welding certificate before applying; for data and security, one certification plus two documented projects.
  4. Move sideways inside your sector. GBS accountants should pivot to controlling, ESG reporting or analytics.
  5. Read the contract. Compare B2B and employment offers net of tax and benefits.
  6. Use the transparency rules. Employers must state expected pay before the first interview and may not ask what you earn now.
  7. Keep both languages sharp. Energy employers require Polish and English; GBS and AI teams usually work in English.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a LinkedIn Jobs on the Rise 2026 list for Poland?

No. LinkedIn published Jobs on the Rise 2026 lists in January 2026 for the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and India, among others, but not for Poland. This guide uses the Barometr zawodów 2026, GUS data and Polish job-board statistics instead.

What is the unemployment rate in Poland in 2026?

GUS reported a Labour Force Survey unemployment rate of 3.3% in Q1 2026 and a registered rate of 5.8% in September 2026, 0.2 points above a year earlier. Eurostat’s harmonised rate for Poland was 3.2% in December 2025 against 5.9% for the EU.

Can a foreign professional get a job in Poland’s rising professions?

Yes, and the process became simpler on 1 June 2025: applications are filed through praca.gov.pl, the labour-market test is abolished, and the EU Blue Card accepts six-month contracts and experience in place of a degree.

How much do AI engineers earn in Poland in 2026?

Grafton’s IT Salary and Trends Report puts generative-AI and MLOps engineers at PLN 23,000–28,000 gross a month (about USD 5,850–7,120) and data architects at PLN 28,000–35,000; Antal’s 2026 report puts AI solutions architects at up to PLN 40,000. Many offers are B2B contracts, quoted net of VAT.
