TL;DR: Notion fits internal wikis when the company already lives in Notion β Free exists, Plus is a published per-seat rate on notion.so/pricing. GitBook fits product docs that should sit next to the repo, with a free personal/docs path and paid team plans on gitbook.com/pricing. Slite fits smaller internal knowledge teams that will pay a published per-seat rate. Document360 fits public product help centres that will take a quote (workspaces, languages and AI suite change the number).
A knowledge base is the system staff or customers search for a written answer. It is not enterprise AI search as a standalone category (Kurums already has that comparison) and it is not a help desk ticket queue.
Every entry uses the same fields: published pricing, public vs internal, AI search posture, free/trial and the main limitation. The order below is not a quality ranking. Published $0 entry first (Notion, then GitBookβs free docs path). Slite follows with a public seat. Document360 is last because the current marketing page is quote-led.
Knowledge base software compared at a glance
| Provider | Published pricing | Typical use | Best for | Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Notion | Free plus Plus and Business seats on notion.so/pricing | Internal wiki that is also the docs/project tool | Companies already in Notion | Visit β |
| GitBook | Free plus paid team plans on gitbook.com/pricing | Public product documentation | Docs next to engineering | Visit β |
| Slite | Published per-seat plans on slite.com/pricing | Internal knowledge for small teams | A dedicated internal wiki without Notion sprawl | Visit β |
| Document360 | Quote on document360.com/pricing. Docs still name Professional / Business / Enterprise. 14-day Enterprise trial | Public or private help centre with languages and AI add-ons | Support orgs that need a purpose-built KB and will take a quote | Visit β |
Checked 14 September 2026. Document360βs public site now leads with a configurator instead of a flat grid; older βfrom $199β screenshots are not used here.
Two products let you publish something at $0. One publishes seats. One quotes.
Internal wiki vs customer help centre
Notion and Slite are where employees write. GitBook and Document360 are where customers read. Using Notion as the public help centre is possible; it is rarely how support teams want to manage versions, languages and a custom docs domain.
The four providers in detail
1. Notion
WIKI INSIDE THE WORKSPACE
Best for: internal knowledge when Notion is already the companyβs document system and Q&A can ride the same seats.
| Published pricing | Free plus Plus / Business / Enterprise on notion.so/pricing. AI features follow the edition you buy |
| Public vs internal | Excellent internal. Public sites exist but are not Document360 |
| AI search | Notion AI / Q&A is plan-gated. See also the workplace AI comparison |
| Free plan / trial | Permanent Free with limits |
| Main limitation | A wiki that is also tasks, CRM experiments and meeting notes becomes unsearchable without hygiene |
- Stay if the company will not open a second editor.
- Do not pick Notion to dodge a docs-as-code workflow your engineers already want in GitBook.
- Permission sprawl is the failure mode, not the $0 row.
2. GitBook
DOCS NEXT TO THE REPO
Best for: product documentation that should look like a docs site and sync with Git.
| Published pricing | gitbook.com/pricing β Free plus paid team plans |
| Public vs internal | Public product docs first. Internal spaces exist on paid rows |
| AI search | Assistant features are plan-gated on the live grid |
| Free plan / trial | Free personal/docs path is published |
| Main limitation | Not an employee handbook replacement for HR policies unless you force it |
- Use GitBook when docs live beside code review.
- Count editors, not readers, when you price seats.
- Custom domain and branding sit on paid plans β read that row before a launch.
3. Slite
DEDICATED INTERNAL WIKI
Best for: small and mid-size teams that want a knowledge tool that is not also their project tracker.
| Published pricing | slite.com/pricing β per-seat published plans |
| Public vs internal | Internal first |
| AI search | Ask / AI features follow the paid plan |
| Free plan / trial | Trial; confirm whether a lasting free row still prints |
| Main limitation | You now have two writing tools if Notion is already mandated |
- Pick Slite only if you will switch the wiki, not βadd Slite beside Notion.β
- Import quality from Confluence/Notion decides the project, not the seat price.
- Public help-centre needs are a different vendor (Document360/GitBook).
4. Document360
PURPOSE-BUILT HELP CENTRE, QUOTE-LED
Best for: support and product teams that need languages, workspaces, a docs domain and optional AI chatbot on a dedicated KB.
| Published pricing | document360.com/pricing is a configurator. Docs still describe Professional, Business and Enterprise. 14-day Enterprise trial. AI Premium Suite and chatbot are add-ons |
| Public vs internal | Both. Public product KB is the centre of gravity |
| AI search | Quoted. Do not treat AI as included in an unpublished βfromβ price |
| Free plan / trial | 14-day trial. No honest $0 production plan on the current marketing page |
| Main limitation | You cannot self-qualify year-one cash from the homepage |
- Send language count, private vs public, editor seats and whether you need the AI suite.
- Migration of an existing Zendesk Guide or Freshdesk KB is a scoped line.
- Do not compare an old βfrom $199β blog post to Notion Plus.
Kurums Match: which one fits your situation
We already pay Notion and only need an internal wiki
Stay in Notion. Add hygiene, not a second tool.
Engineering owns customer docs
GitBook.
We want an internal wiki that is not Notion
Slite, if you will actually migrate.
Support owns a public multi-language help centre
Document360 quote. Notion is the wrong shape.
We need enterprise search across Drive, Slack and tickets
Wrong article. Use the enterprise AI search comparison.
Buying tip: write whether the reader is an employee or a customer. That one sentence eliminates half the shortlist.
How this comparison was put together
Vendor pricing pages and Document360 docs/billing articles, 14 September 2026. No paid placement. Kurums did not migrate a help centre on all four.
Order is published $0 first, then public seats, then quote-led. No badge reflects a commercial relationship.
Frequently asked questions
Can Notion replace a help centre?
For a small public FAQ, sometimes. For versions, languages and a support workflow, use a KB product.
Is Confluence missing?
Confluence is an Atlassian suite decision. It is adjacent; this page focuses on KB-shaped tools with public packaging.
Does Document360 still have list prices?
The marketing site now quotes. Older grids are not treated as current list.
Where does Guru sit?
Guru is sales-led knowledge for GTM teams. It is not on this four-product public-price set.
Did we test search quality?
No. Search your ten hardest questions on a trial.
