TL;DR: Google Sheets fits teams already in Drive; Gemini in Sheets follows the Workspace edition, not a $0 consumer Gmail assumption. Rows fits analysts who want integrations and metered AI tasks on a modern grid β Free $0, Plus $8/user/mo, Pro $79 + $8/user/mo. Microsoft 365 Excel fits companies whose files are .xlsx; Copilot in Excel is an add-on on qualifying plans, not βfree Excel.β Coefficient fits RevOps that need Salesforce or HubSpot to land in Sheets or Excel on a schedule.
An AI spreadsheet is a grid that can pull live data or answer a question about the sheet. It is not an FP&A application. Kurums already compares FP&A platforms separately.
Every entry uses the same fields: published pricing, how AI is sold, where the grid lives, free/trial posture and the main limitation. The order below is not a quality ranking. Published $0 grids first (Sheets, then Rows Free). Excel follows because Copilot is a paid add-on. Coefficient is last because it is a sync layer on top of a grid you already own.

Checked 14 September 2026. Rows.com still served a pricing page and noted the Superhuman combination. Confirm support status before a new multi-year purchase.
Two products start at $0 as grids. Copilot and Coefficient are add-ons to a grid you already run.
Grid vs add-on vs sync pipe
Buyers mix three invoices. A grid (Sheets, Rows, Excel). An AI add-on (Gemini edition, Copilot). A sync pipe (Coefficient). Comparing Copilot + Business Basic to Rows Free is not a like-for-like quote.
The four providers in detail
1. Google Sheets
DEFAULT GRID FOR GOOGLE SHOPS
Best for: collaboration at no extra SKU when Drive is already the file system.
| Published pricing | Consumer Sheets $0. Gemini features follow Workspace edition on workspace.google.com/pricing |
| How AI is sold | Gemini in Sheets is edition-gated, not a promise on every @gmail.com account |
| Where the grid lives | Google Drive |
| Free plan / trial | The spreadsheet is free. The AI layer may not be |
| Main limitation | Assuming Gemini on a personal Gmail the way you assume it on Business Starter |
- If βAI in the sheetβ is the requirement, read the Workspace edition matrix before you decline Rows.
- Connected Sheets and Looker are separate conversations from a team budget workbook.
- Stay here when the pain is collaboration, not Salesforce extract.
2. Rows
METERED AI ON A MODERN GRID
Best for: analysts who want integrations and an AI task quota on a spreadsheet that is not Excel or Sheets.
| Published pricing | Free $0 with 5 AI tasks/month; Plus $8/user/mo monthly; Pro $79/mo + $8/user/mo monthly on rows.com/pricing |
| How AI is sold | AI tasks are a printed cap (5 / 200 / 1,000). Integrations and refresh cadence rise by plan |
| Where the grid lives | Rows workspace. Not a replacement file format for every auditor who demands .xlsx |
| Free plan / trial | Permanent Free with a tiny AI cap |
| Main limitation | Task caps and the Superhuman combination. Confirm the product path before you migrate a close process |
- Count AI tasks the way Typeform buyers count responses.
- Proβs $79 base is the line that surprises teams who only read β$8 per user.β
- Export an .xlsx sample for anyone who will not live in Rows.
3. Microsoft 365 Excel
CORPORATE FILE STANDARD
Best for: organisations whose books, models and board packs are already .xlsx.
| Published pricing | Excel for the web exists on a Microsoft account. Business suite seats are on Microsoft 365 business pricing. Copilot in Excel is an add-on on qualifying plans β see also Kurumsβ workplace AI comparison |
| How AI is sold | Copilot SKU, not a toggle inside every Excel licence |
| Where the grid lives | Desktop, web and OneDrive/SharePoint |
| Free plan / trial | Excel for the web is limited. Copilot is not free Excel |
| Main limitation | Comparing Copilot + a Business seat to Sheets $0 hides two extra invoices |
- Ask IT whether Copilot is already in the tenant agreement.
- If the only need is live Salesforce columns, Coefficient may be cheaper than Copilot.
- Desktop Excel macros will not migrate to Rows without a project.
4. Coefficient
SYNC PIPE, NOT A NEW GRID
Best for: RevOps that must land Salesforce, HubSpot or similar objects in Sheets or Excel on a schedule.
| Published pricing | Free plus paid sync plans on coefficient.io/pricing |
| How AI is sold | Assistive features on top of the sync. The product you are buying is the pipe |
| Where the grid lives | Your existing Sheets or Excel |
| Free plan / trial | Free tier exists; volume and connectors force paid |
| Main limitation | It does not replace Excel. It feeds Excel |
- Buy this when CRM export is the pain, not when you need a new formula language.
- Match connector list and refresh frequency to the paid bracket.
- Do not stack Coefficient and Rows and Copilot βto be safe.β
Kurums Match: which one fits your situation
We already pay Google Workspace
Stay in Sheets. Confirm whether your edition includes Gemini in Sheets.
We live in Excel files and board packs
Excel. Add Copilot only if the tenant will pay the add-on. Use Coefficient if the gap is CRM extract.
We want AI on a clean grid with integrations
Rows Plus, watching the 200-task cap. Confirm vendor status after the Superhuman combination.
Salesforce must appear in a sheet every morning
Coefficient on top of Sheets or Excel.
We need planning, scenarios and close packages
Leave this page. Use the FP&A comparison.
Buying tip: write down whether you are buying a grid, an AI add-on or a sync pipe. Put only one new invoice in year one unless you have a documented reason for two.
How this comparison was put together
Vendor pricing pages, 14 September 2026. Not an FP&A bake-off. No paid placement. Kurums did not rebuild a financial model in each tool.
Order is published $0 grid first. No badge reflects a commercial relationship.
Frequently asked questions
Is Excel Copilot included with Microsoft 365?
Usually not. Treat Copilot as its own SKU unless your agreement says otherwise.
Did Rows shut down after Superhuman?
The pricing page was live on the check date. Confirm current support before you migrate.
Can Coefficient replace a CRM?
No. It copies objects into a sheet.
Is Google Sheets enough for board reporting?
For many startups, yes. For teams that live in workbook-style models, Excel remains the file they email.
Did we test formula compatibility?
No. Import a real workbook before you commit.
