Shift Planner
Five weekly rotas, each harder than the last. Tap the grid to put people on shift so every day has the cover it needs and everyone works their contract days. Then add leave, key holders, rest rules and a new starter who needs a mentor. Publishing a broken rota costs a heart.
How to play Shift Planner
How workforce planners build a rota
- Start with demand. Work out how many people each day or shift really needs. Overstaffing costs money; understaffing costs service and burns people out.
- Respect contracts. Each person has agreed hours. Giving one person extra days while another is short is unfair and often a breach.
- Plan around leave first. Approved holidays and absences are fixed. Place them before anything else.
- Cover the skills. Some shifts need a key holder, a first aider or a manager on site. Check every day has one.
- Protect rest. Long runs of consecutive days raise error rates and sickness. Many countries set minimum rest periods and maximum weekly hours by law.
