What do job boards and hiring platforms actually do?
Job boards publish your vacancy where job seekers look and route applications back to you. The market splits into four groups. Global platforms such as LinkedIn and Indeed sell reach in dozens of countries on an advertising model. National job boards, such as StepStone in Germany, Kariyer.net in Türkiye, Pracuj.pl in Poland, Naukri in India or SEEK in Australia, carry much of the traffic in their home market. Niche boards serve one occupation or audience, from tech and finance to academia and hospitality. Aggregators and programmatic platforms collect or buy job traffic across many sites.
Most paid platforms add CV-database search, candidate matching, screening questions and employer-branding pages, and some combine a job portal with an applicant tracking system.
Public employment services are free and are not listed here because they are government services, but they belong in many hiring plans.
How do you choose job boards by country and role?
Start with the market, then the role. Reach that looks global on paper can be thin locally: an advert that works on StepStone in Düsseldorf will reach few candidates in São Paulo, where Catho, Vagas.com, Gupy and LinkedIn carry the traffic. A practical default for any role you care about is one global platform, the national board for that country and one niche or public channel.
| Channel type | Typically fits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Global professional network | Managerial, sales, tech and English-speaking roles; passive candidates | Weak for hourly and frontline roles; thinner in some Asian markets |
| Global job site or aggregator | Hourly, operational and mid-level volume hiring | Free posts lose visibility quickly; heavy screening load |
| National job board | Most white-collar and skilled roles in its home market | Brand names and audiences change at every border |
| Niche or professional board | Tech, finance, academic, hospitality, NGO and executive roles | Small audiences; value depends on the exact specialism |
| Frontline and mobile job app | Retail, logistics, hospitality and blue-collar hiring | Candidates expect a reply within hours |
| Campus and early-career platform | Interns, graduates and trainee programmes | Tied to the university recruitment calendar |
Ask each board for recent applicant numbers for a similar role and city, and confirm that it still operates: several well-known boards have closed, merged or stopped taking job posts since 2024. For specialist roles a narrow, qualified audience usually outperforms a wide one; volume hiring rewards reach and a short, mobile-friendly application.
How do multi-posting and ATS distribution work?
Most applicant tracking systems publish a vacancy to your careers page and push it to connected boards through integrations or a multi-posting add-on, so applications return to one pipeline. Dedicated multi-posting tools cover a longer list of boards and suit agencies and teams hiring in several countries. Programmatic platforms spread one budget across many sites and shift spend towards the sources that deliver applicants.
Your careers site is a channel too: Google for Jobs and aggregators read its structured job data, so accurate titles, locations, salaries and closing dates matter.
Distribution makes it easy to pay twice. Check whether an aggregator already feeds a site you pay for, whether an agency sponsors the same jobs, and whether your ATS still posts to boards that have closed.
How are job boards priced?
Platforms charge in a handful of ways, and one vendor may use several depending on market and set-up. The model decides who carries the risk: with auction pricing you pay for attention whether or not anyone applies, while fixed adverts and slots trade predictability for the risk of unused capacity.
| Model | What you pay for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Free organic posting | Nothing; visibility fades as newer jobs arrive | Limits on free jobs; some job types must be paid |
| Pay per click | Each click or view, usually on a daily or campaign budget | Clicks are not applicants; daily spend can run above the average |
| Pay per application | Each started or completed application | Started is not finished; screen for quality quickly |
| Fixed-price advert | One advert for a set period, often in tiers | Price varies by role, location and tier; renewals add cost |
| Slots, credits and subscriptions | A number of live jobs or credits over a term | Unused capacity is sunk cost; check carry-over rules |
| Database and sourcing access | CV search, contact credits or recruiter seats | Recruiter time is the real cost; credits expire |
Featured placement, urgent tags and branded pages are sold on top. Global platforms mostly price like advertising; national boards more often sell fixed adverts and packages. Rate cards are rarely public and change often, so get a quote for your exact roles and locations and buy annual capacity only after a test.
How do you measure whether a job board is worth paying for?
Impressions, clicks and applications are the numbers platforms report most readily and the ones least connected to hiring. Budget on two figures instead. Cost per qualified applicant is your spend on a channel divided by the applicants who pass your CV screen against a role scorecard; it can be measured within days and reflects candidate quality. Media cost per hire is advertising spend for a role divided by the hires it produced, which needs a full hiring cycle to mean anything.
Tag the source of every applicant in your ATS, define what qualified means before the advert goes live, and review each platform quarterly. Give every sponsored campaign a stop rule: a budget ceiling and a date by which it must produce a set number of qualified applicants.
The cheapest improvement is usually a better advert, not a cheaper board. A specific title, a salary range, two or three clear must-haves and a short application raise the qualified share, and every downstream cost falls with it.
Frequently asked questions
Are free job posts still worth using?
Yes, for low-competition and local roles, and where your employer brand already draws applicants. Free posts are limited and lose visibility as newer jobs arrive, so sponsor only roles where position on the page matters.
Do I have to advertise on a government job portal?
Usually not, but there are exceptions. Some work-permit routes require an advert on the public portal before a foreign hire, and some countries make employers report certain vacancies to the public service first. Check the current rules for the country and visa category.
How many job boards should you use for one role?
Usually two or three: one global platform, the national board for the country and one niche, campus or public channel that matches the role. Adding more boards often brings the same candidates twice rather than new ones.
What is the difference between a job board and an aggregator?
A job board sells advert space and hosts the listing. An aggregator collects jobs from careers sites and other boards and sends candidates to the original, often selling sponsored placement per click or application. Some large platforms do both.
How this directory is compiled
Every company on this page was added by our editors from publicly available information: the company name, what it does in one line, and a link to its own site. No company paid to be listed, none was asked for approval, and inclusion here is not a recommendation — it is a starting point for a shortlist you should verify yourself.
No position on this page can be bought: the list is always alphabetical and every entry is free. Advertising on kurums.com appears only in clearly labelled ad units, separate from the listings, and has no influence on our editorial guides or on the Kurums Trust badges, which are earned against published criteria and are never for sale.
Plans, features and availability change often in this category, so vendor descriptions here are kept short and factual. Check each provider's own site before you decide, and treat any directory — including this one — as a list of candidates rather than an answer.
